Description

Governors State University, along with the College of Business, invites qualified individuals to apply for the role of Director of Academic Services. The Director is a strategic leader committed to improving the student experience, enhancing recruitment, retention, and enrollment, and building a strong alumni network within the College of Business. The position entails planning, operational, and logistical support for enrollment management, student success and advising, curriculum management, student and alumni engagement, and special projects delegated by the Dean. The Director must: (a) create a student-focused environment that encourages academic achievement, retention, and career readiness; (b) work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to fulfill the College's strategic objectives; and (c) be goal-driven, have an extensive knowledge of higher education, demonstrate outstanding interpersonal abilities, and have a documented history of developing and managing effective teams.
Essential Responsibilities

45% Recruitment, Retention, and Enrollment Management
Collaborate with the COB leadership team to set the strategic direction for academic services focused on student recruitment, enrollment, retention, progression, and success.
Oversee the development, implementation, and management of a strategic enrollment plan for COB graduate programs, establishing multi-year targets for inquiries, applications, admissions, and enrollments.
Supervise the tracking, analysis, and reporting of recruitment, admission, and enrollment data for COB programs, with a primary focus on graduate programs and a secondary focus on undergraduate programs, Prepare year-over-year comparative analyses for inquiries, applications, admissions, newly enrolled students, and continuing enrollments to identify trends, assess the effectiveness of academic services and make data-driven decisions for improvements.
Supervise the coordination of recruitment events including outreach to high schools and
community colleges, ensuring collaboration with Admissions, program coordinators, the
Director of Graduate Admissions, Office of International Services, support staff, direct reports, other GovState departments and alumni organizations.
Monitor student progress and collaborate with program coordinators and direct reports to
identify targeted interventions and support services to address academic challenges and improve academic performance and retention rates among students.
Work effectively and collaboratively with all segments of the university community to refine processes, procedures, workflows, and metrics to advance the overall goals and objectives of the COB in the areas of recruitment, retention and enrollment.
Work closely with the Admissions Office, Office of International Services and team members to streamline the application and admission process, ensuring timely and efficient processing of applications.
Collaborate with the Manager of Marketing, Communications and Outreach to develop targeted recruitment campaigns and create effective marketing materials to attract prospective students.
Ensure that staff, faculty, and program coordinators receive the necessary support and assistance for conducting information sessions, open houses, college fairs, new student orientation, scheduling events, and promoting COB on and off-campus.
Effectively lead, delegate, monitor progress, address challenges, and supervise direct reports to ensure timely competition of tasks and their alignment with strategic priorities.

20% Student and Alumni Relations
Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for student and alumni engagement.
Manage communications for degree programs and courses to current students.
Serve as COB's liaison to GSU Career Services Office, Student Affairs, Academic Resource
Center, Development Office.
Develop, maintain and update COB alumni database ensuring accurate and current information.
Collect and analyze student feedback on academic and extracurricular programs via student exit surveys, retention roundtables, engagement of COB student advisory boards and other indirect assessments to inform continuous improvements.
Collaborate with the Coordinator of Student Success Initiatives and the Manager of Marketing, Communications and Outreach to organize events such as alumni reunions, networking dinners, alumni in the classroom, speaker series and other volunteer opportunities to maintain strong connections with alumni.
Track and analyze engagement metrics to assess the effectiveness of student and alumni programs, using data to inform strategic decisions.

10% Support Curriculum Review, Development, and Implementation
Support COB curriculum review and revision activities.
Support course scheduling within the COB in coordination with Division Chairs and the Dean.
Coordinate catalog development and academic policies with Division Chairs.
Ensure accuracy and updates of documents supporting academic advising -student handbook, fact sheets, catalog, study plans, forms (capstone, internship, candidacy, course retakes), program website, major advising guides.
Ensure that curriculum changes are effectively communicated and implemented.
Maintain the MyGSU portal site for students.

10% Supervise Graduate Academic Advisor, Coordinator of Student Success Initiatives and Staff Clerk of Academic Services
Supervise and mentor academic services staff, fostering a positive, collaborative and high
performing work environment.
Oversee the graduate admissions process through Slate and process change/improvements to meet the targets set by the strategic enrollment plan.
Provide leadership and direction to the graduate academic advisor, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to be effective.
Oversee the coordinator of student success initiatives to ensure programs and services are meeting the needs of students.

10% Liaison with all student support units and the Undergraduate Academic Advising Center (UAAC) on campus
Act as the primary point of contact between the College of Business and the UAAC.
Maintain regular communications with UAAC Director and COB undergraduate advisors on
issues related to course schedule, student advising, etc.
Build strong relationships with other student service units, such as career services, tutoring,
counseling and disability services, to ensure a comprehensive support system for students.
Act as a bridge between faculty and students ensuring both parties are aware of available resources and how best to use them.
Advocate for the needs of College of Business students within the broader university framework.

5% Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
Oversees the COB Graduate Academic Advisor, Admissions and Records Officer, and Coordinator of Student Success Initiatives.
Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
Master's degree in higher education, educational leadership, business administration, or a
related field.
Extensive experience (three to five years) in academic services, student affairs, enrollment
management, or a related area is crucial. This should include roles with increasing responsibility.
Demonstrated success in developing and implementing programs that improve student retention, success, and satisfaction.
Direct experience in recruitment and retention strategies, as well as managing enrollment processes and analyzing data to inform decision-making.
Familiarity with curriculum design, assessment, and advising processes.
Ability to delegate tasks effectively, manage conflict constructively, and inspire and motivate teams to achieve common goals.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Experience managing multiple projects, providing logistical support for various initiatives and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are necessary.
Ability to develop and maintain strong alumni networks and engage alumni in the life of the
college.
Proven track record of achieving goals and delivering results.

Desired Education and Experience
Doctorate degree in business or higher education.
Familiarity with HLC and AACSB standards, policies, practices, and procedures.
Proficiency in organizing, analyzing, and presenting data using spreadsheet and other tools
Proficiency using enterprise systems software and reporting tools such as Ellucian Colleague, Microsoft SharePoint, Business Objects Webi, and Digital Measures.
Ability to apply digital technology to impact unit operational effectiveness and efficiency.
Knowledge of current trends in business education.
