Our client is one of the largest and fastest-growing propane distribution companies in Canada. They are a fast-moving, customer-facing, field-based business operating coast to coast, with over 400 team members. They strive to be the undisputed propane leader in North America.
We are currently supporting them with their search for a Director of Accounting who will be responsible for ensuring balance sheet integrity and maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all assets, liabilities, and equity.
They have an immediate need for a 3- to 6-month contract assignment and for a permanent position.

We are currently supporting them with their search for a Director of Accounting who will be responsible for ensuring balance sheet integrity and maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all assets, liabilities, and equity.
They have an immediate need for a 3- to 6-month contract assignment and for a permanent position.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Preparing and presenting accurate financial statements, balance sheets, profit and loss accounts, and other financial reports to management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
- Together with our outsourced tax expert, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations. Preparing and filing tax returns, and coordinating with external auditors and tax consultants.
- Maintaining and overseeing the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with accounting and tax standards. Knowledge of US GAAP would be an asset.
- Supervising the processing of invoices, payments, and receipts, and ensuring timely collection of receivables and payment of liabilities. Managing accounts payable master data.
- Leading inventory counts and reconciling inventory records with actual stock levels to ensure accurate reporting and minimize discrepancies.
- Leading fixed asset counts, ensuring proper tracking, valuation, and recording of fixed assets, and managing asset depreciation schedules.
- Reconciling cash accounts with bank statements to ensure accuracy, identify discrepancies, and resolve any issues in a timely manner.
- Developing and implementing internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure financial data integrity, and prevent fraud as well as prevent errors and misstatements in the financial statements.
- Coordinating with internal and external auditors, ensuring all audit requirements are met, and implementing recommendations from audit findings.
- Managing and training the accounting team, setting goals, and ensuring professional development to maintain a high-performing team.
- Staying updated with changes in accounting and tax laws and standards, ensuring the company's accounting practices are compliant with regulations (e.g., IFRS, GAAP).
- Developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and consistency in financial operations.
- Collaborating with other departments (such as HR, Sales, Operations) to provide financial insights and support for decision-making.
What You'll Need To Be Successful:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration
- 10+ years of experience in progressive finance leadership roles
- 2+ years leadership experience
- CPA Designation
- Solid communications, technology, analytical, and management skills
- Experience working with NetSuite and ADP would be an asset
- Familiarity with USA Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Knowledge of Canadian Tax and reporting compliance
