Description:

Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Director of Accounting oversees the accounting function for Palms and Palms Place including the gaming and non-gaming accounting and audit areas. This position maintains accounting processes and procedures to ensure accurate, timely, and relevant financial reporting, consistent with the US GAAP accounting principles.

Core Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage accounting staff to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely manner.
  • Manage tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including reconciliations, financial reporting, year-end audit, and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Manage the month-end close process to meet reporting deadlines.
  • Preparation of financial statements and management reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Manage day-to-day tactical and strategic functions of accounting.
  • Works well with operating departments and with enterprise shared services.
  • Prepare, review and/or ensure completion of recurring activities including month-end/year-end closings, reconciliations, financial reporting, sales/use tax reporting, etc.
  • Oversee day-to-day activities, including journal entries, batch approvals, reconciliations, account analysis.
  • Assist with all external reporting, including audits and other special reports.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure periodic bank compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Identify, develop and implement procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy of the department.
  • Prepare ad-hoc analysis for senior management.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding financial results and special requests for senior management.
  • Prepare memos, analysis, policies, and procedures as requested by VP of Finance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
  • Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Contribute to the broader organization by being a strong team leader and business partner in support of the overall growth of the company.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Active CPA license preferred.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive accounting experience required.
  • Minimum three (3) years supervisory experience required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.
  • Proficiency with computerized financial systems, Microsoft Excel and other related applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Physical Demands:
  • Work is performed in various settings including closed office and casino floor.
  • Must be tolerant to varying conditions of noise level, temperature, illumination, and air quality.
  • May be exposed to smoke.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Constant contact with executives, department management, team members, and guests.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing and mobility.
  • Balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions Lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Eye/hand coordination.
  • Use of standard office equipment.
  • Basic math.
  • Ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.
