PositionOverview

Under the supervision of the VP/Controller, the Director of Accounting is responsible for leading the accounting operations functions, which include Payroll, Accounts Payable, General Accounting, Cash, Receivables, the monthly financial close, annual audit, 990 tax return, and internal controls. EssentialFunctions/Duties/Tasks

Business Operations
  • Manages the transaction process functions including payroll, AP, AR, cash, fixed assets, investments, and general ledger.
  • Manages the transaction workflow and related internal controls.
  • Assists the Controller and CFO with cash management.
  • Creates and implements efficient business processes through staff development, technology, and process design.


Compliance and Regulatory Reporting
  • Manages the annual financial audit.
  • Manages the Form 990 filing.
  • Manages federal grant reporting and related compliance.
  • Responsible for Federal drawdowns and reporting to include SF-424 and SF-425 reporting.


Financial Reporting
  • Manages the monthly financial closing process up to financial statement preparation.
  • Maintains current knowledge on non-profit accounting, tax compliance, and industry best practice.
  • Provides financial guidance and support to department heads and ensures that all financial decisions are aligned with the organization's strategic goals.
  • Leverages NPF's technology investment to improve and accelerate the monthly closing process.


Required Knowledge, Skills,and Abilities
  • Direct and lead a staff of three.
  • Create and maintain effective relationships with peers and co-workers.
  • Curiosity and desire to improve business practices and internal controls.
  • Technical aptitude and desire to leverage NPF's investment in technology to improve operations.
  • Desire and ability to develop staff in a growth-oriented organization, including providing direct and candid performance feedback.
  • Non-profit accounting competence sufficient to prepare financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Experience with Single Audit and Uniform Guidance
  • Experience with SEFA compilation


Preferred Educationand Experience
  • BS in Accounting
  • CPA desired
  • 10 years of professional experience, with 5 years as a supervisor
  • NetSuite or other complex accounting system
  • High proficiency at Excel
