The Director of Architecture oversees a team of architects with direct responsibility and accountability for establishing and controlling overall project scope, cost, quality, and schedule. This position will report to the SVP of Architecture..

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Manages all aspects of the architectural process with responsibility for controlling project scope, design development, construction document quality control, permitting, issue resolution, and turn over for construction.
  • Initiate project file setup and coordinate dissemination of project data to interested parties and oversee project start-up by preparing architectural portions of the design development package, occasionally visiting proposed sites, preparing reports with findings and recommendations, and maintaining documentation.
  • Perform site feasibility and due diligence investigations on proposed sites such as evaluating zoning & planning regulations and local or state regulations governing design and construction.
  • Establish, implement, and manage a schedule for the design and construction documentation of multiple projects each at varying stages in the design development and review process.
  • Identify, direct, and monitor outside design consultants and other services to support the development process. Ensure quality control and maintain a liaison with consultants while holding consultants accountable for scope, cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of construction documents, coordinate revisions, change orders, and design directives.
  • Oversee and coordinate the governmental permitting and public hearing process necessary to construct the proposed developments. Coordinate the preparation of visual presentations as needed for zoning and city council meetings. Attend public hearings pertaining to each project.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional internal team members (Real Estate, Interior Design, Procurement, Project Management, Capital Expenditures). Work closely with Project Managers to address design and documentation-related issues and articulate direction as required and be the liaison to the outside consultants.
  • Act as a resource for technical information to ensure an effective decision-making process through the design development and construction process.
  • Regularly communicate project status and issues to project team members, management, and operations through requisite documentation and team meetings.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with other departments and outside business contacts
  • Ability to adapt to changing business environments, solve problems, and take advantage to minimize project costs, maintain construction schedules, and improve the quality of completed projects
  • Be able to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Proficiency in applicable design tools (AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam)
  • Proficiency in applicable project management programs (including Microsoft Office Suite and Smartsheet)
  • Some travel required


Education and Experience:
  • Professional degree in Architecture; NCARB-certified or capable of obtaining certification within 90 days of hire date
  • Minimum ten years of relevant experience in multifamily and/or hospitality
  • Licensed Architect
