Summary:

The Director of Attorney Recruitment is responsible for overseeing the recruitment resources of the firm with an emphasis on strategic lateral recruitment, developing and implementing the strategic direction for firm, designing and implementing workflows to prioritize (based on success competencies and criteria), identify, offer and integrate attorneys into the firm. This includes: lateral attorney recruiting, oversight, assistance and integration of associate recruitment, programs and other professional recruitment, The position will be considered part of the firm's Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and will have high visibility across the firm at all levels. All recruitment resources and coordinators will ultimately be responsible to this position which reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Required Responsibilities:
  • Establishes attorney recruitment goals by developing and implementing a framework for prioritizing and evaluating strategic and routine attorney recruitment in collaboration with Department Administrators, the Hiring and Compensation Committee and office managing partners and hiring partners;
  • Responsible for managing all attorney applicant through the recruitment process and establishes (in coordination with the Director, Human Resources) and on-boarding and retention workflow for the firm that results in improved attorney retention rates;
  • Develops appropriate interview techniques, training and evaluation forms for the various categories of attorneys including competencies.
  • Develops and implements an attorney interview training to ensure appropriate and meaningful candidate is information is gathered as part of the interviewing process;
  • In collaboration with the CFO and Controller, develop a financial evaluation process that helps prioritize the attorney recruitment needs of the firm.

Other Responsibilities:
  • Promote a best practice approach to professional recruitment and retention by establishing consistent offer letters, files and follow-up;
  • Manage the exit interview process by conducting exit interviews with each departing lawyer, summarizing, analyzing and reporting results in an effort to improve the recruiting and retention process.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:
  • J.D or BA/BS degree with a minimum of ten 10 years of experience in professional legal recruitment. Knowledge of human resource management, employee relations, professional development, compensation administration and analysis is necessary.
  • Proven track record of success in a large AmLaw firm or equivalent with experience scaling the recruitment efforts of a large enterprise.

  • Superior verbal, and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills, at all levels of the organization;
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, complex job duties, and work effectively under pressure;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as part of a team, and maintain effective and consistent communication skills;
  • Strong leadership skills which translate into an engaged, high-performance legal recruitment team management;
  • Ability to gain commitment, motivate and advance firm-wide initiatives to achieve successes;
  • Knowledge of the practices, sources of information and commonly accepted standards of attorney recruiting, hiring and development;
  • Proficient use of technology, business applications and social media;
  • This position requires mandatory travel to all offices as determined by the Hiring and Compensation Committee.

Physical Requirements:
  • Sits frequently, six out of eight hours per day. Siting position static for up to one-half hour at a time.
  • Bends and stoops occasionally, up to one-half hour per day.
  • There is a moderate level of grasping, lifting, pushing, and/or pulling of objects of less than 25 pounds.
