The University of Utah College of Social Work invites applications for the Director of the BSW program, an 10-month faculty position with an additional 2 months administrative increment.at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor, for a three-year renewable term. This position is open to both tenure-line and career-line faculty. This faculty/administrative position includes a highly competitive salary, generous benefits, and professional development funding. The BSW Director reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Qualifications and responsibilities are outlined below:

Qualifications

Required:

  • MSW from a CSWE-accredited program
  • 3+ years of professional social work experience
  • 1+ years of administrative experience in higher education or equivalent setting
  • Experience with curriculum development and leadership, including program reaffirmation is required, as we deliver BSW education on campus as well as through Title IV-E and distance modalities
  • Experience with online education (strongly preferred)


The primary responsibilities of the BSW program director fall in five areas and include:

Program Leadership. The BSW program director is responsible for
  • Conducting meetings with faculty and staff to discuss programmatic and student issues;
  • Conducting meetings with students to discuss programmatic and faculty and course/class issues;
  • Ensuring the flow of critical information between students, program faculty and staff, and College administrators and faculty;
  • Developing the budget of the programs; and
  • Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of grounded and online educational programming in the programs.

Curriculum Oversight. The BSW program director is responsible for
  • Managing and overseeing the curriculum of the programs;
  • Collaborating with Sequence Heads and/or individual curriculum teams as necessary to insure curriculum efforts are in accordance with the standards mandated by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE);
  • Collaborating with Sequence Heads and/or individual curriculum teams as necessary to insure that faculty are providing quality instruction and support to students inside and outside of the classroom;
  • Collaborating with Sequence Heads and/or individual curriculum teams as necessary to promote articulation and innovation within individual curricular areas;
  • Collaborating with Sequence Heads and/or individual curriculum teams in developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising the curriculum; and
  • Collaborating with Sequence Heads and/or individual curriculum teams in developing and revising programs' procedures and evaluation forms.

Program Planning and Evaluation. The BSW program director is responsible for all
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring the BSW and SUDC Program Strategic Plans;
  • Assessing the program including submission of the CSWE Annual Report;
  • Assessing student learning outcomes including submission of the 2-year BSW Assessment of Learning Outcomes (using SWEAP data); and
  • Leading, facilitating and writing the self-study for CSWE reaffirmation.

Student Recruitment and Retention. The BSW program director is responsible for
  • Developing and maintaining materials and processes that promote recruitment activities, which include: creating and updating promotional brochures/literature, program website, and providing text for letter generation to prospective students;
  • Developing and maintaining materials and processes that promote retention activities, which include: creating and updating promotional brochures/literature, program website, catalog copy and degree checklist; and providing text for letter generation to current students; and
  • Providing oversight of all program-affiliated student organizations and activities such as majors' clubs, honor societies, and recognition events.

Outreach. The BSW program director is responsible for
  • Representing the programs' interests in both internal and external endeavors;
  • Coordinating program advisory committees;
  • Serving as a liaison between the program and other University constituencies; and
  • Participating in/at community events in which the program is represented.
