POSITION PURPOSE:
The Cardiopulmonary Services Director is responsible for championing and ensuring the provision of high quality, safe, effective, and efficient respiratory care and cardiopulmonary services to patients at South Peninsula Hospital. Services include both the inpatient and outpatient setting. This Director will provide clinical leadership and role model respectful, constructive, interdisciplinary, and collaborative communications, critical thinking, and problem-solving. They will positively influence and promote engagement and education of staff in evidence-based care practices. This position requires focus on patients' and providers' experiences and rounding to evaluate care, clinical needs, safety, and environmental integrity. The Cardiopulmonary Services Director will seek organization and workflow opportunities with staff and providers. They will assure that departmental and hospital-wide goals are supported and reviewed with staff and inter-disciplinary teams involved. The Cardiopulmonary Services Director serves as the clinical lead for the Respiratory team, supporting the department to administer specified respiratory treatments, medications, life support, and diagnostic examination for diagnoses of cardiovascular ailments.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This is an exempt management position covered under the personnel policies of the Employee Manual for Managers and Confidential Employees. The incumbent is subject to a six-month probationary period in accordance with the provisions of the manual. The incumbent may, from time to time, be required to work more than forty hours per week and/or assist in the provision of direct patient care by maintaining the skills necessary to do so. Such work in excess of forty hours per week is compensated by the annual salary. The individual in this position understands and supports the overall goals of the administration of the hospital and manages the resources and activities of the Respiratory Department to assist in accomplishing the hospital's mission, vision, values, and goals. The Director must be self-directed, and able to work with minimal supervision. They will maintain and improve the quality of care in accordance with state and federal regulations and the hospital's goals, quality improvement and infection prevention programs. They will work constructively and collaboratively with other leaders and departments of the hospital to improve and strengthen the operations and hospital's healthy work environment commitment. This position reports to the Chief Nursing Officer.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be graduated from an accredited school of Cardiopulmonary Services, with certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Three years of Cardiopulmonary Services experience required, in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience with the following preferred: cardiac and/or pulmonary rehabilitation, electroencephalography, sleep medicine, intensive care, trauma, neonatal, and pulmonary function studies.
  • Must possess the ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulation.
  • Must have the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Must be able to effectively present and respond to question from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure and have the ability to calculate figures and amounts, apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, and exercise sound technical judgment and appropriate assessment skills.


ENVIRONMENT:

South Peninsula Hospital is a 20 bed acute care facility located on the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula. There is a 26 bed long term care facility attached to the hospital. The working environment is generally pleasant, is clean and well maintained. The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Persons in this position are exposed to infectious diseases, including all types of blood-borne pathogens, muscle diseases, including all types of blood-borne pathogens, muscle strains, falls, and needle stick injuries. This person is occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and fumes or airborne particles, and frequently works near moving mechanical parts. This position is occasionally exposed to risk of radiation or electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Generally, physical demands are light and most work is performed inside. Work hours may be varied, but are generally during business hours Monday - Friday.
