Director of Client Success

Bitewell is looking for a Customer-Obsessed Director of Client Success to join our mission-driven startup. We need a true player-coach who can both execute hands-on client work and build our client success function from the ground up. Starting as a team of one, you'll establish the foundation for our client success strategy while directly managing key relationships that drive our growth. We're seeking an entrepreneurial leader who has "been there, done that" in the startup world and can thrive in our fast-paced environment while being fanatical about client outcomes.

Our vision is to create a world without diet-related disease. We're making this happen through our core product: The FoodHealth Score. The score is our proprietary, first-of-its-kind nutrition scoring system that combines cutting-edge science with innovative technology to give consumers insight and transparency into the healthfulness of food. We bring this to market with our partners in food retail, manufacturing, and data, which empowers customers to make healthier choices, merchandisers to stock healthier shelves and brands to make healthier products.

What You'll Do
Hands-On Client Management & Team Building
  • Own key client relationships from day one, serving as the primary point of contact while simultaneously building the client success playbook
  • Start as a small but mighty team of two and scale the function as we grow, developing processes, metrics, and eventually hiring and leading a high-performing team
  • Implement a scrappy yet effective approach to client management that delivers exceptional value with startup efficiency
Client Success Strategy & Execution
  • Create and execute an agile client success strategy focused on rapid time-to-value for partners
  • Drive 100% client retention by ensuring successful adoption and implementation of Bitewell's FoodHealth Score API
  • Develop client onboarding, engagement, and success frameworks that can scale as our client base grows
  • Identify and capitalize on upselling and cross-selling opportunities with existing clients
Product Expertise & Customer Advocacy
  • Become the voice of the customer within our organization, relentlessly advocating for client needs
  • Develop deep understanding of Bitewell's tech products to educate clients on best practices and value-adding features
  • Regularly engage with clients to gather feedback and translate it into product improvements
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior-level decision-makers within client organizations
Operations & Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Implement lean client success operations, defining and tracking key metrics to measure satisfaction and account health
  • Collaborate closely with our small but mighty team across sales, marketing, and product to ensure a seamless client experience
  • Leverage startup-appropriate tools to manage relationships efficiently and drive results
  • Provide strategic insights to leadership about market trends, client needs, and growth opportunities


Who You Are
  • Startup Veteran: You've built and scaled client success functions at early-stage companies before and understand the unique challenges of startup environments
  • Customer Champion: You're obsessively focused on customer outcomes and have a proven track record of nurturing client relationships that drive retention and growth
  • Industry Insider: You bring experience from health tech, food tech, nutrition, digital health, or related sectors
  • Do-er and Builder: You're comfortable rolling up your sleeves to manage clients directly while simultaneously creating scalable processes and systems
  • Relationship Expert: You excel at building trust-based relationships with senior-level decision-makers and can navigate complex client ecosystems
  • Tech-Fluent: You have experience supporting tech-enabled products or API solutions and can translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
  • Data-Driven Optimizer: You use data to make decisions and continuously improve client success outcomes
  • Resourceful Problem Solver: You find creative solutions with limited resources and thrive in ambiguity
  • Mission-Aligned: You're passionate about improving health outcomes through food and technology

Additional Details

Location: San Francisco, onsite
Reports to: Chief Commercial Officer
Compensation: $145K - $160K + Bonus + Equity
