ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director of Clinical Operations (DCO) is responsible for the supervision, management, and coordination of quality patient care within their assigned team. The DCO is accountable to ensure that care and services provided by their team are delivered in a fiscally responsible manner while maintaining strict compliance with all standards of practice, federal, state, and local rules, and regulations. This key position is responsible for the coordination of the hospice Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) care and services and assumes responsibility for ensuring appropriate and quality services are provided through the continuum of care.

* This position will be Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm*

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Registered Nurse of an accredited school of nursing with a current license to practice professional nursing in the state in which we do business.
  • Two (2) years of clinical management or supervisory experience in hospice/home care setting.
  • Must have reliable transportation, proof of current automobile insurance and a valid driver's license.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE:
  • Demonstrates the ability to clearly document according to standards of practice and to accurately and efficiently audit the documentation of others utilizing resources and tools provided.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of State and Federal regulations, and accrediting body standards.
  • Ability to learn and master the workflow in the HomeCare HomeBase.
  • Ability to accurately perform workflow and identify areas of non-compliance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principals and practices of hospice care delivery and regulations including fraud, abuse, and anti-kickback.
  • Demonstrated record of accomplishment of developing and managing successful teaching strategies improving quality of patient care, compliance outcomes, and successfully following multi- performance improvement initiatives and plans of correction.
  • Demonstrate the skillset that includes interpersonal, oral, and written communication to maintain a positive coaching environment.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, relationship building, and consistently produce work that is detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Possess a professional and resourceful style; having the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products and related computer skills.
  • Complies with acceptable professional standards and practice.
  • Demonstrates ability to supervise and direct others.

  • Excellent observation, written, verbal and communication skills with good judgment.
  • Understands Hospice philosophy as it relates to end of life.
  • Understands principles of pain/symptom management.
  • Basic computer skills: understanding the basic notions of computer manipulation, managing computer files, word processing, using spreadsheets and databases; creating presentations; finding information and communicating using email; and being aware of social and ethical implications of Internet use.
  • Possess a professional and resourceful style; having the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time.
  • Ability to demonstrate a successful track record of growing census and admissions monthly.
  • Knowledge of community resources, documentation, and program management
  • Understanding and utilization of a customer relationship management system.
  • Sensitivity to feelings of the terminally ill patients and their families.
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas utilizing the spoken word.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, negotiation, and public relations skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate autonomy, organization, assertiveness, flexibility, and cooperation in performing job responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of all socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to display evidence of patient advocacy.
  • Ability to remain alert and act safely in patient's homes and/or institutional settings with potential exposure to infections, communicable diseases, odors, blood, excreta, and hazardous materials.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
