ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
East Bay Agency for Children's (EBAC) mission is to improve the well-being of children, youth, and families by reducing the impact of trauma and social inequities. EBAC strives to reduce barriers that contribute to disparities in wellness for socio-economically disadvantaged and racially marginalized families and to create communities where all children and families have support systems to reach their full potential.
EBAC was established in 1952 when a group of parents of children with special needs wanted to give their children the same educational and recreational opportunities that contribute to the physical well-being and social growth of all children. From this was born the first day-treatment program west of the Mississippi and was the foundation of growth in meeting the needs of children and families living in the San Francisco Bay Area, and especially in Alameda County.
Today, EBAC programs serve thousands of children, youth and families throughout Alameda County each year with the goal of giving each service recipient the specific resources, skills, and support they need to help them reach their full potential. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
East Bay Agency for Children is seeking a Director of Communications. The ideal candidate will be a passionate, mission-driven leader who will shape and implement EBAC's strategic communication efforts by establishing a high-level strategy and the tactical approach required to implement it. You will have the opportunity to build a department for a high-impact, catalytic non-profit experiencing significant impact and opportunity for growth.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Communications will report to the CEO and work in partnership with a talented, tenured leadership team to realize the incredible potential of sharing EBAC's story, amplifying EBAC's impact and utilizing the opportunity to communicate across various audiences in service of the organization's mission.
The Director of Communications will be passionate about the organization's mission and will leverage the power of storytelling and media to amplify it, work across multiple communities, platforms, and stakeholders, and drive positive change for the individuals and families served by EBAC.
This position will be a hybrid remote, but the ideal candidate will live in the Bay Area and be able to travel to EBAC's office in Oakland at least once a week to meet with the team.

QUALIFICATIONS and COMPETENCY FACTORS
- Commitment to the mission and values of EBAC.
- An ability to see the potential (and be excited by it) in the storytelling of the organization, our broad array of stakeholders and the inspiring work that the team does every day.
- 5+ years of experience, BA degree in related field preferred.
- Demonstrated track record of successfully executing integrated communication campaigns and initiatives.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to craft compelling narratives and tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, hybrid remote environment.
- Advanced proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including social media management, email campaigns, and content management systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with media contacts, EBAC staff, community partners and other stakeholders.
- This role will exemplify a commitment to the power of communications to support the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Communication Planning:
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to advance EBAC's mission and programs.
- Identify key communication goals, target audiences, and messaging priorities.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to align communication efforts with organizational objectives and priorities.
- Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of communication strategies and tactics using relevant metrics and data analytics tools and when needed, prepare presentations for stakeholders to demonstrate the impact of communication efforts and identify areas for improvement.
Content Development:
- Create compelling written, visual, and multimedia content for various communication channels, including website, email blasts, newsletters, brochures and annual reports.
- Work closely with staff and program participants to capture and share impactful stories that highlight the human impact of EBAC's programs and services with sensitivity and compassion - recognizing, minimizing, and working to avoid exploitation.
- Ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all communication platforms.
Digital Engagement:
- Lead the organization's nascent digital communication efforts, including creating social media strategy and content, email campaigns, online ads, and website content to support SEO.
- Monitor online conversations, thoughtful leadership pieces, and overall trends related to the core issues in EBAC's mission and proactively engage with stakeholders and followers.
External Relations:
- Write press releases, media pitches, and other materials to effectively communicate organizational updates, success stories, and advocacy efforts.
- Serve as the organization's primary spokesperson and media liaison, responding to media inquiries and interview requests, and collaborating with other staff members as needed.
- Support the thought leadership of the CEO and other leadership team members through the preparation of speeches, talking points and other external communication materials.
