Job Title: Director of Construction

Compensation: $220,000 - $230,000 Annual Salary

The base salary or hourly wage range for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. About the Role:

Din Tai Fung Restaurant Group is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Construction to lead our construction initiatives as we continue to expand our presence. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Development, this role is pivotal in ensuring that our new locations are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong background in construction management, who excels in problem-solving and thrives in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Overall Construction Management: Oversee all aspects of the construction process, from pre-construction planning to project completion, ensuring projects meet quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
  • General Contractor (GC) Management: Select, manage, and collaborate with general contractors, ensuring alignment with project goals and company standards.
  • Contract Negotiations: Lead the negotiation and administration of contracts with general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring favorable terms and adherence to Din Tai Fung's expectations.
  • Schedule Management: Develop, maintain, and enforce project schedules, ensuring timely delivery of all construction activities.
  • Bidding Management: Oversee the bidding process, including preparing bid documents, evaluating proposals, and selecting qualified contractors and suppliers.
  • RFI and Change Order Management: Manage Requests for Information (RFI) and change orders, ensuring that all changes are documented, budgeted, and approved appropriately.
  • Procore Expertise: Utilize Procore software for project management, ensuring that all project documentation, communication, and workflows are efficiently managed within the platform.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactively identify potential issues and develop effective solutions to keep projects on track, demonstrating a "Type A" personality with a superintendent's approach to hands-on problem resolution.
  • Project Close-Out: Lead the project close-out process, ensuring all punch list items are completed, documentation is finalized, and all contractual obligations are met.
  • Handoff to Operations: Oversee the handoff of completed projects to Operations and Facilities teams, ensuring a smooth transition for New Restaurant Openings (NRO) and that all operational needs are addressed.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of construction professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Work Ethic & Soft Skills: Bring a strong work ethic and excellent soft skills, crucial for maintaining a collaborative and positive work environment across all teams and stakeholders.
  • Travel: Travel as needed to ensure all projects are running smoothly on time, and on budget.

Job Requirements:
  • Experience: Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in construction management, with a proven track record of successfully managing large-scale projects in the restaurant or hospitality industry.
  • Expertise: Strong knowledge of GC management, contract negotiations, schedule and bidding management, RFIs, change orders, and Procore software.
  • Leadership: A go-getter with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset; ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously.
  • Personality: Type A personality with a superintendent's approach-highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to thrive under pressure.
  • Work Ethic: Strong work ethic combined with great soft skills to ensure a collaborative and effective work environment.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.
