Job Description

The Director of Creative Communications is a trusted leader in the agency and beyond, responsible for the growth of business and people across all brands, internal partners and initiatives Recognized as a champion of ideas who works at the intersection of strategy, creativity and innovation. Reports to and works closely with the Head of Creative, agency leadership and Marketing brand teams to continuously exceed expectations by delivering work that informs, connects and inspires. Fosters a culture of collaboration and inclusivity on their team and the broader agency. Lives AbbVie's Ways of Working and the A3 mission.

This is a hybrid position and requires the ability to commute to our Mettawa, IL office at least 3 days per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Creative/Hands-on Work (30%)
  • Oversees entire agency business portfolio, manages capability or business leads.
  • Remains hands on and directly manage or execute on specific brands or initiatives
  • Actively participates in client meetings; co-leads strategy sessions with Account
  • Shares responsibility with Account for shaping strategy and positioning
  • Leads creative presentations with agency partners
  • Leads (and wins) new business opportunities
  • Creates stimuli for market research and attends market research as appropriate
  • Understands that advertising is a service industry that sometimes requires extra time and effort to meet client commitments

Management (35%)
  • Leads all content team functions: Medical Writing/Consumer Writing/Quality -Assurance
  • Works with reports to elevate and streamline agency processes, particularly agility, innovation and transparency
  • Troubleshoots personnel issues; identifies solutions for challenging deadlines and budgets
  • Leads award-worthy creative execution with constructive feedback and clear direction
  • Manages staff to ensure utilization while identifying and supporting growth.
  • Provides written and face-to-face feedback for annual performance reviews, as well as ongoing feedback throughout the year
  • Identifies and interviews prospective creative candidates

Leadership (35%)
  • Partners with agency leadership to elevate agency performance and individual skill sets
  • Sets and drives a vision for the content team
  • Promotes learning and innovation by implementing new technologies (AI, etc.)
  • Fosters collaborative and productive relationships between content teams and other agency functions
  • Rallies the team with their leadership presence, and comfortable with ambiguity
  • Leads by example and contributes to the greater good of the agency
  • Fosters strong senior client relationships across AbbVie businesses
  • Works with agency partners to grow business with existing clients and acquire new clients
  • Proactively addresses performance, workflow, and quality issues
  • Effortlessly absorbs entire brand situations to deliver meaningful insights that influence strategy


Qualifications
  • 15+ years' advertising agency experience [pharmaceutical or digital/cpg/general agency] required
  • BA degree/ MA/MS (Advertising, Communications, Journalism, or English preferred. Pharm D/ science background a plus)
  • A proven track record of creative ability and judgment; highly successful client contact experience; an excellent presenter, collaborator, manager, and mentor; exceptional marketing and strategic abilities; and award-winning copywriting skills in all media
  • A strong understanding of science and healthcare preferred but not required;
  • Proficiency in digital communications, digital strategy, Generative AI tools

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
