TITLE: Director of Curriculum
JOB GOAL: To coordinate and provide leadership in planning, developing, supporting, and maintaining best practices for efficiency and effectiveness of the school system's curriculum and instruction programs
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
SUPERVISES: Assigned staff by the Superintendent
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At least a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university preferred Degree in Educational Leadership from an accredited college or university preferred Possess and maintain a valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate At least five (5) years of teaching experience in education preferred At least three (3) years of experience in school administration preferred Good public relations skills Possess a valid driver's license and ability to visit schools Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Ability to work a flexible schedule Superior leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills and ability to be an instructional leader across multiple settings. Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel assigned to the area of curriculum and instruction. Ability to work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups. Proficiency in oral, written, and electronic communications with the ability to produce, lead, and deliver presentations to various stakeholders. Working knowledge of state and local curriculum and instruction guidelines. Ability to multitask, to delegate appropriately, and to prioritize tasks efficiently. Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member. Ability to use technology to plan instruction, to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information. Physical strength, stamina, dexterity, and acuity to perform essential job functions and responsibilities. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Demonstrates support for the school system, its purpose, direction, and priorities. Provides administrative leadership for the Curriculum and Instructional Program. Conducts staff meetings and trainings to promote efficient functioning of the Curriculum and Instructional Program. Preserves confidentiality of any Board of Education business, its staff, and its students. Demonstrates professionalism in appearance and in attitude at all times. Collaborates with administrators in developing, implementing, and evaluating instructional personnel. Oversees the organization of textbooks, budget/purchasing of textbooks, and assign/distribution to schools. Demonstrates knowledge and skills of educational technology's best practices for classroom integration and demonstrates the ability to coach/mentor instructional personnel. Collaborates with Principals in overseeing the Counselors and counseling best practices. Supervises guidance programs and the guidance plan. Collaborates with the Mental Health Coordinator to ensure best practices for providing mental health services to students. Collaborates with the Superintendent in designing and implementing the Alabama Teaching Mentor Program. Collaborates with the Superintendent on the District Accreditation processes and Compliance Monitoring. Collaborates with the Superintendent and the Principals in reviewing local school ACIPs prior to final submission to the ALSDE. Collaborates with the school counselors and Principals on scheduling and implementing state and local assessments. Collaborates with stakeholders and news outlets on school system successes, innovations, and initiatives in curriculum and instruction. Serves as first point-of-contact for administrators in all matters related to curriculum and instruction, including programs and procedures. Serves as school system RTI Coordinator and liaison to the ALSDE. Collaborates with Principals and coaches to develop and implement PST (Problem Solving Team) and RTI (Response to Instruction) best practice protocols. Serves as the ARI point-of-contact for the reading specialists. Plans and implements through collaborative efforts, the school system's RTI, AMSTI, reading programs, and other elementary educational programs. Plans and implements through collaborative efforts, the school system's RTI, AMSTI, APEX, Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and other secondary educational programs. Collaborates with appropriate staff in analyzing data to determine professional development opportunities for instructional personnel. Assists the Superintendent in reviewing and revising the school system's Strategic Plan. Assist school personnel with eliminating any barriers to instruction and learning. Represents the school system at state, regional, and local meetings related to curriculum and instruction as directed by the Superintendent. Collaborates with other staff in writing, implementing, and evaluating grants related to curriculum and instruction. Participates in student interviews, student/parent conferences, student advisory meetings, and other student consultations associated with student learning and academic growth. Serves on the textbook committee and assists with the development of curriculum and pacing guides associated with instruction. Collaborates with the Superintendent and Principals on professional development initiatives. Serves as the professional development database coordinator. Collaborates with the Superintendent in developing and implementing school system CEU/PLU training and learning opportunities. Collaborates with the Superintendent with teacher certification and TEAMS contracts. Collaborates with the Superintendent and other staff in developing new staff orientation and in-service training for employees. Collaborates with the Director of Educational Services to aid in supporting the needs of At-Risk students. Collaborates with the CTE Director, Principals, and local colleges to create opportunities for students in the areas of CTE programming, interview skills, applications, orientations, etc. Participates in parent and/or employee conferences as needed. Assists the school principals in determining the personnel needs. Assists the school principals with recommendations for contract renewals. Assists with the preparation of the system's budget as needed. Disseminates needed information to principals and assistant principals to ensure the proper management of schools and school-related events and issues. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and effective leadership. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to the Superintendent. Responds to inquiries, requests, and constructive feedback in a timely and positive manner. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member, assisting as needed in projects, reports, or activities of the school system. Serves on school system committees, task forces, and representatives groups as required. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
