Seattle Central College is looking to hire a Director of Dental Programs in the Healthcare and Human Services Division.
Salary Range for this position is $84,818- $117,130 annually (depending on experience).
Opportunity is open until filled, first review of materials will begin April 29th, 2025.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Executive Dean of Healthcare & Human Services, the Dental Program Director will assume primary responsibility for the management & direction of the Dental Programs. This includes overseeing the planning, operations, and assessment of program facilities (i.e., labs and clinics), supervising and coordinating the work of instructional and support staff, and working in a team with other program directors and program coordinators within the Healthcare & Human Services Division, Neighborcare Clinic, and other community partners.
This position supervises the Program Coordinator.
Only candidates who are a licensed dental hygienist or a dentist, and are a graduate of a CODA-accredited program, and possess a master or higher degree can be considered for this position.
This position is FULL time, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, primarily 8AM - 5PM. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
This position works primarily on-site.

- Maintain an ongoing awareness of issues, concerns, potential problems on all levels that may affect the Dental Programs.
- Determine a management process for addressing issues and solving problems related to the program.
- Communicate with Executive Dean on an ongoing basis.
- Set goals and priorities for the program in collaboration with the program faculty, program staff, and the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).
- Report as needed to Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), Washington Department of Health's Dental Quality Assurance Committee, and the TAC.
- Supervise Dental Program faculty & staff.
- In conjunction with faculty leads, determine teaching assignments.
- Supervise classified staff.
- Coordinate meetings and communicate issues to the dental faculty.
- Coordinate, review and revisions to the Dental Programs websites.
- Coordinate updates to the Dental Programs application packets.
- Oversee and coordinate annual curriculum review and revision.
- Coordinate policy changes to the division in collaboration with faculty and staff.
- Coordinate communications with other Seattle Central departments/services to support Dental Programs students and the Dental Programs.
- Oversee the operation of the Dental Skills Center Labs.
- Collaborate and coordinate with Neighborcare to ensure clinic operations are in alignment with the partnership agreement while ensuring CODA and DQAC requirements are met.
- Maintain accurate administrative records for the Dental Programs including internal and external documents.
- Facilitate faculty efforts in establishing program goals and objectives along with the planning and implementation of the activities to achieve them.
- Chair department meetings.
- Review and respond to program-related correspondence.
- Review and renew clinical contracts quarterly and annually; initiate new clinical contracts as needed.
- Evaluate clinical sites on an annual basis.
- Maintain regular communication with dental organizations, professional groups, other dental education programs, Neighborcare and the dental community at large.
- Attend Washington Dental Hygienist Association meetings and communicate pertinent issues with the Dental Program faculty.
- Conduct communications with the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations of the American Dental Association.
- Under the direction of the Executive Dean supervise full-time and part-time faculty and mutually develop instructors professional development plans, as required by the Washington Administrative Code (WAC).
- Maintain part-time faculty pools.
- Coordinate advertising/applications with division Executive Dean.
- Arrange and conduct interviews; make recommendations for hiring dental faculty and staff.
- Plan and conduct orientation of new faculty members.
- Update and maintain the Faculty Handbook and the Student Handbook on an annual basis.
- Annually recommend part-time faculty hours to the Executive Dean. This includes requirements for Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer quarters.
- Encourage methods to promote Dental Programs applications; be available for student advising prior to program application.
- Collaborate with the Admissions Office and Advisors to coordinate the application and admissions process.
- Oversee the admission process, including compliance issues.
- Report regularly to division Executive Dean regarding Dental Program budgets.
- Review posting of budget and balance with current books.
- Establish and monitor process for examining current equipment and supplies.
- Oversee maintenance of files for equipment, supplies, audio-visuals and all resources on an on-going basis.
What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
- Dental hygienist or a dentist who is a graduate of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and possesses a masters or higher degree
- Current Dental Hygiene or Dental license, with ability and commitment to secure reciprocal WA licensure within 6 months of employment
- Current Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) and Washington Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) credentials, or ability and commitment to secure within 6 months of employment. This requirement does not apply to an applicant with a dental license.
- A minimum of 3 years clinical dental and/or dental hygiene experience.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in using current electronic communications, i.e MS Office Suite or similar, database management, etc.
- Ability to work productively with diverse students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a team setting, serving as a team leader or team member.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and triage a workload.
