ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
East Bay Agency for Children's (EBAC) mission is to improve the well-being of children, youth, and families by reducing the impact of trauma and social inequities. EBAC strives to reduce barriers that contribute to disparities in wellness for socio-economically disadvantaged and racially marginalized families and to create communities where all children and families have support systems to reach their full potential.
EBAC was established in 1952 when a group of parents of children with special needs wanted to give their children the same educational and recreational opportunities that contribute to the physical well-being and social growth of all children. From this was born the first day-treatment program west of the Mississippi and was the foundation of growth in meeting the needs of children and families living in the San Francisco Bay Area, and especially in Alameda County.
Today, with 280 staff and a $25 million annual budget, EBAC programs serve thousands of children, youth and families throughout Alameda County with the goal of giving each service recipient the specific resources, skills, and support they need to help them reach their full potential. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Development plays a pivotal role in advancing the organization's mission by leading and executing comprehensive fundraising and donor engagement strategies. Heading a department with three other staff and reporting to the CEO, the Development Director is responsible for securing financial resources to support EBAC's vital programs serving children, youth and families in the East Bay community.
This position oversees fundraising initiatives, including individual giving, corporate partnerships, foundation grants, special events, and donor stewardship. The Director of Development will evolve and implement strategic plans to enhance donor cultivation, expand funding sources, and elevate EBAC's presence in the philanthropic community.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic, results-driven professional with a passion for social impact, strong relationship-building skills, and a proven track record in nonprofit fundraising. They will work collaboratively with the leadership team, Board of Directors, EBAC Auxiliary and other key stakeholders to ensure sustainable financial growth and long-term organizational success.
This position will be a hybrid remote, but the ideal candidate will live in the Bay Area and be able to travel to EBAC's office in Oakland at least twice a week.

QUALIFICATIONS and COMPETENCY FACTORS
- Commitment to the mission and values of EBAC.
- Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or a related role.
- Proven success in grant writing, major gifts solicitation, and corporate partnerships that raised at least $10M annually.
- Strong leadership, project management, and strategic planning skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Demonstrated awareness of, sensitivity to, and competence in communication with and about culturally and socioeconomically diverse client populations.
- Proficiency in donor database management and fundraising software.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Create and Implement a Comprehensive Fundraising Strategy
- Develops and executes a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes identifying and cultivating individual, corporate, public sector, and foundation donors and prospects.
- Leads and manages all aspects of the fundraising program, including major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, fundraising and donor cultivation events, government RFPs, grant writing and reporting.
- In collaboration with the Director of Communications, assists in developing and implementing a marketing strategy to support fundraising efforts, including creating collateral materials, social media content, and other communications to promote the organization's mission, programs, and services.
Ambassador & Community Engagement
- Serves as a key spokesperson and representative for EBAC, effectively communicating the organization's mission, impact, and funding needs to donors, partners, and the broader community.
- Builds and nurtures relationships with major donors, corporate partners, foundations, and community stakeholders to strengthen EBAC's visibility and philanthropic support.
- Actively engages in donor affinity groups, professional networks, and community organizations to expand EBAC's reach and influence.
- Identifies and cultivates new opportunities to elevate EBAC's presence within key donor and philanthropic communities, driving strategic partnerships and funding growth.
- Facilitates connections between donors, Board members, and other stakeholders to foster a culture of engagement, advocacy, and long-term investment in EBAC's work.
Build/Maintain the Infrastructure and Team to Carry Out a Well-Crafted Donor-Centered Development Plan
- Develops and implements a fundraising plan that includes clear goals, metrics, and timelines for achieving revenue targets.
- Creates and manages a Development Department budget that is aligned with the organization's strategic priorities and goals.
- Oversees donor database management, track fundraising metrics, and provide regular reports on development activities and financial goals.
- Identifies and implements technology solutions to support fundraising and development operations and to enhance donor engagement and stewardship.
Staff Management & Mentorship
- Builds and manages a high-performing development team that is aligned with the organization's mission, values, and strategic priorities.
- Provides leadership, guidance, and mentorship to development staff to build their capacity to achieve fundraising goals and to support the organization's mission and goals.
Volunteer Leadership Engagement
- Works closely with the Board of Directors to leverage their networks and support fundraising initiatives.
- Acts as primary liaison to EBAC Auxiliary supporting their work as fundraisers, donors and volunteers including acting as primary contact and support for the EBAC Auxiliary's gala.
- Collaborates with staff to engage volunteer leaders and other donors in meaningful volunteer opportunities when appropriate and possible.
