Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced Director of Distance Education to lead our self-paced instructional team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in literacy and reading intervention strategies, a passion for educational excellence, the leadership skills to inspire our self-paced facilitator team, and an understanding of online learning management systems. This role requires a strategic thinker who can create and implement engaging, effective curriculum materials tailored for online learning.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, tablets, or any other device necessary to meet the needs of the department.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms and requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies up to 20 pounds.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Our company offers flex hours that can be established with the immediate supervisor.
Travel: Primarily local if any travel to meet with outside vendor support as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of curriculum content for Brainspring on-line reading programs and workshops, ensuring alignment with current educational standards and face-to-face course content.
- Manage a team of self-paced course facilitators, including hiring, training, and scheduling.
- Collaborate with publications team, product managers, and outside agencies to develop, refine, and integrate Brainspring curriculum in a digital platform.
- Oversee the evaluation and assessment of program effectiveness, incorporating feedback from surveys, test results, and academic research to enhance program fidelity and foster a positive learner experience.
- Collaborate with the Chief Instructor and Instructional team using the curriculum, ensuring alignment of course delivery platforms.
- Contribute to the strategic planning and direction of the company, advocating for innovative approaches to reading intervention and literacy improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Literacy, Reading Education, Online Learning, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in leading and facilitating online learning, with a focus on literacy or reading intervention programs.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with a track record of motivating and guiding teams to achieve exceptional outcomes.
- Deep understanding of the science of reading, instructional strategies for struggling readers, and educational/instructional technology tools.
- Experience in designing, managing, and facilitating on-line courses.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to inform curriculum decisions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
