General Description
The purpose of the Director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Paramedicine
Program position is to serve in a supportive and collaborative management/leadership capacity reporting to the Dean of Health and Public Services. The Director will coordinate all aspects of the Paramedicine program and EMS training including maintaining State of Nebraska certification at all levels of EMS training as well as maintaining national accreditation of the Paramedicine program according to the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Department operations will be coordinated in accordance with college policies, procedures and contractual agreements and college/pathway strategic planning goals and objectives. The position serves on, and collaborates with, the Educational Services Leadership team to realize academic priorities.
This position is responsible for assisting with the comprehensive coordination and administration of all matters relating to personnel, students, advising, program assessment, scheduling, grant discovery, coordination, curriculum implementation, external agencies and all financial considerations relating to the department. This position assists the Dean in providing leadership for all instructional programs including the coordination of initial and continuing education classes at all EMS provider levels throughout the 20 county Northeast Nebraska service area. The position provides impetus for change/expansion; hires properly credentialed faculty and staff; oversees department planning; monitors and plans department budgets based on a quality improvement model; provides direction for assessment of student learning; and articulation of courses and programs with other colleges and agencies. The position promotes cooperation within and between the College divisions in support of the College mission, supports College initiatives, and encourages departmental faculty to be supportive of institutional programs and offering. The position is responsible for assisting with effective institutional communication and maintaining a climate that supports creativity and innovation.
Qualifications: Education
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree or the equivalent with knowledge of current National EMS Scope of Practices and National EMS Education Standards, and about evidenced-informed clinical practice.
Qualification:Experience
The successful candidate will have over one and up to three years of experience working and/or teaching others as it relates to first responder careers.
Qualification:Skills
Must have appropriate medical or allied health education, training, and experience; knowledge about methods of instruction, testing and evaluation of students; field experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care; and academic training and preparation related to emergency medical services, at least equivalent to that of a paramedic. Additionally, the successful candidate must be knowledgeable about the current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Education Standards, and about evidenced-informed clinical practice.
