Currently we are seeking a Director of Research and Development (R&D) located in Cary, NC. This position is vital in driving innovation and strategic growth within Temposonics, LLC. This position is responsible for leading and managing the R&D initiatives, particularly focusing on new product development and design, continuous improvement and development on existing products. The incumbent will oversee the R&D Engineering Team, ensuring the successful execution of research protocols, project management, and technical expertise. Additionally, the Director of R&D will actively contribute as a working manager, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to advance our R&D objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of R&D will have detailed supervisory responsibilities, including:
Leading and managing the R&D Engineering Team, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to team members. This role has four direct reports with teams under each direct report.
Developing and implementing professional development plans for R&D employees, identifying training needs, and facilitating opportunities for skill enhancement and career advancement and assisting the R&D managers to do the same with their teams.
Conducting regular performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback, and recognizing achievements for this position's direct reports.
Ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards within the R&D team.
Develop and maintain processes for managing work assignments within the R&D group, optimizing productivity and workflow efficiency.
Establish and maintain onboarding and training programs for new R&D employees, ensuring comprehensive orientation and skill development.
Implement a reporting process to communicate the status of R&D work to internal stakeholders, providing regular updates on project milestones and outcomes.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required: Master's in electrical engineering, or related field. At least 5 years of direct design and project management experience.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness to Travel within the United States and to our other company locations abroad

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage all aspects of R&D projects, including protocol development, resource allocation, data analysis, budget oversight, and final report summarization.
- Provide technical input and analysis to inform project decision-making processes, leveraging expertise in electrical / mechanical engineering and product application.
- Conduct critical review and evaluation of new and proposed customer requirements, incorporating existing information and industry best practices.
- Review and approve content developed by R&D, Technical Marketing and Product Management teams for external release, ensuring accuracy and alignment with company standards.
- Encourages inter-departmental cooperation and supports Temposonics worldwide R&D strategy.
- Offer technical support by developing or reviewing responses to inquiries from Technical Marketing, Product Management and consumer channels, ensuring alignment with industry standards and company objectives.
- Develop technical content for diverse delivery platforms to address new technologies, industry changes, and market expansions, catering to internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborates with Technical Marketing and Product Management to develop marketing specifications which includes cost and performance tradeoffs and technical feasibility.
- Manages support of Manufacturing and Quality during the product/project-release. This includes reviewing manufacturing work instructions, tooling and testing solutions. Ensures all technical data is complete and accurate. May serve as a liaison to outside vendors and contractors with the responsibility of ensuring vendors have the abilities and resources to support development. May collaborate with vendors on product specifications and component selection.
- Lead stewardship efforts by developing and revising training programs and delivering training sessions on new technologies, industry trends, and markets.
- Proactively engage with internal and external stakeholders to achieve project goals, enhance collaboration, and identify opportunities for innovation.
- Effectively develop and manage the annual budget for R&D activities, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and financial targets.
- Identify and implement process improvements to optimize internal workflows, enhance productivity, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Stay updated with relevant technical advancements through continuous learning, participation in professional events, engaging with key external peers and internal stakeholders as needed, and networking within the industry.
- Acting regulatory agency oversight, approval and local ATEX representative
- Knows and applies the division's quality policy and procedures of ISO 9001 as it relates to area of responsibility and the organization. Follows all standard operating procedures as prescribed and notifies appropriate personnel of any non-conformance.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated leadership experience with a track record of successfully managing complex projects and leading teams of employees with advanced science degrees.
- Excellent project management skills, capable of operating in a fast-paced environment and meeting deadlines amid competing priorities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
