Role Overview:
Verve Motion is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead and grow our engineering organization, with responsibilities spanning hardware, firmware, and software engineering. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical depth in electrical and mechanical systems, proven experience in consumer or mass-market hardware development, and a hands-on leadership approach, ideally in a startup culture.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving cost-reduction, quality, and scalability through all phases of the product lifecycle.

This role is ideal for someone with strong technical depth in electrical and mechanical systems, proven experience in consumer or mass-market hardware development, and a hands-on leadership approach, ideally in a startup culture.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving cost-reduction, quality, and scalability through all phases of the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a cross-functional team covering hardware, firmware, and potentially embedded software, with a focus on design, prototyping, validation, and manufacturing readiness.
- Oversee the development of wearable robotic systems, ensuring high reliability, user safety, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate closely with internal product, supply chain, and operations teams to ensure cost-effective, scalable product delivery.
- Implement best practices in DFM, DFx, reliability testing, and embedded system integration.
- Drive cost-down initiatives across hardware BOMs and contract manufacturing processes.
- Support and scale internal electrical design reviews-especially valuable as our current team is light on EEs.
- Champion engineering processes, development tools, and quality systems tailored to the needs of a scaling hardware startup.
- Contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven culture focused on improving the lives of physical workers.
What We're Looking For:
- Proven experience leading a connected hardware team across hardware, firmware, and software domains.
- Demonstrated success transitioning products to mass production-especially experience moving from domestic prototyping to overseas manufacturing.
- 10+ years of hardware engineering experience, including startup experience, with exposure to both small teams and structured environments at larger companies.
- Deep expertise in electromechanical systems and embedded platforms.
- Excellent leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Track record of building products at scale, with cost, reliability, and user experience in mind.

- Familiarity with soft goods, textiles, or wearable product integration.
- Passion for human-centric design and robotic augmentation.
