Position Description
Interested in leading a team that maintains a beautiful and inspiring environment for our students and staff? The Director of Facilities (DOF) at Dunn School is responsible for organizing, administering, and leading a comprehensive program that ensures the proper maintenance and enhancement of our 60-acre campus. This includes managing middle and upper school buildings, athletic facilities, over 20 campus residences, four dormitories, our on-site wastewater treatment system, and a campus-wide trail. Given the age of the campus (67 years) and the scope of deferred maintenance, the DOF needs to balance long-term strategic planning with immediate operational needs.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, where they may be planning major renovations one day and addressing urgent maintenance needs the next. Approximately 60% of the role involves strategic and administrative tasks such as scheduling, mentoring, training, budgeting, communicating, and planning. The remaining 40% is hands-on, addressing emergent facilities issues and ensuring that the campus remains functional,safe, and attractive for our students, staff, and community. Flexibility, a customer service approach, and a strong work ethic are essential. The position is year-round, requiring support for camps and outside rentals during summer in addition to management of major maintenance and capital projects during school breaks. The position also requires weekend work during key events, including opening day of school, graduation, and alumni weekend..

Salary and Benefits
This is a full time, year-round, exempt (salaried) position, which is eligible for Dunn School's full benefits package including: medical, dental, vision, retirement match up to 7.5%, life/AD&D, long-term disability, tuition remission for admitted and eligible children, and free meals in our dining hall. Dunn pays 100% of employee premiums for medical, dental, life/AD&D, and LTD disability benefits.
The annual salary range for this position is $75,000 to $100,000. Actual salary will be dependent upon experience, qualifications, and duties.

Opportunities (Responsibilities)
- Supervise the School's maintenance, grounds and cleaning staff. These duties include managing staff's schedules, fostering teamwork, and ensuring accountability and professional growth.
- Manage and coordinate contractors and vendors supplying construction, maintenance, grounds and cleaning services.
- Prepare and execute a detailed, whole campus preventative maintenance plan.
- Inspect school facilities on a regular schedule to ensure they meet health and safety standards and are maintained in an attractive and clean condition.
- Assist the Head of School, CFO/COO, and Buildings and Grounds Committee of the Board of Trustees to plan and execute construction projects in accordance with the School's capital budget, Conditional Use Permit and Campus Master Plan.
- Work closely with the CFO/COO to solicit and analyze proposals from contractors and sub-contractors to perform various capital projects. Manage the timely, quality, and on-budget execution of such projects.
- Coordinate the purchasing of furniture and equipment for School operations..
- Coordinate and/or lead staff training to improve work quality, and ensure safety and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Manage facilities and equipment set-up, for a variety of activities (special events, guest speakers, pep rallies, athletic events).
- Compile, assign, and execute facilities work orders requested by members of the community; track response time to ensure timely feedback and accountability.
- Work cooperatively with community and state agencies, including the water board, police, fire, and health departments to ensure that high standards of health, sanitation, and safety are maintained.
- In coordination with CFO/COO. develop the Facilities annual operating budget and then execute the approved budget; meet regularly with CFO/COO to discuss budget performance and variances.
- Maintain current drawings, engineering records, materials data sheets describing the School's facilities, equipment, grounds and chemicals.
- Manage resource use and institute purchasing procedures to ensure that Dunn uses the healthiest, most sustainable alternatives.
- Work with Dunn's Risk Management team to ensure emergency preparedness and effect emergency response protocols and procedures as required.
- Ensure proper School and State reporting of all accidents and injuries.
- Understand and communicate current developments in the areas of repair, maintenance, and custodial work through reading, networking, and participating in appropriate workshops, meetings and professional organizations.
Position Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years working in a similar or comparable position/job
- Ability to think creatively, diagnose repair needs and problem solve
