WORK DAYS: 12 Months / 240 Days

SALARY SCHEDULE: Directors (Range: $88,482/year - $115,488/year)

LOCATION: Central Office

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Director of Federal Programs provides leadership , direction , guidance and administration of the District's federal funds. Oversees the development of comprehensive program plans, implementation of planned programs and monitoring of budgets in accordance with established federal , state, and local policies. Ensures compliance with all State and Federal laws , State Department of Education Rules and Regulations, Anniston City Board of Education policies, where applicable, and oversees all programs that fall under the Federal Programs umbrella.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Direct the system's federal programs
  • Consults with Superintendent, CSFO , State Department of Education , school officials, administrators, and others to review operations/activities , review / resolve problems , receive advice/direction, and provide recommendations for the most effective use of supporting funds
  • Coordinates daily work activities ; organizes , prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with staff, assists with complex problem situations, and provides technical guidance and expertise to address problems in assigned area
  • Develops, recommends, and implements budget for assigned area and closely monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget
  • Submits annual applications for federal funds and completes application amendments through SOE eGap portal in a timely manner
  • Stays current on all guidelines, requirements, and procedures for submitting state and federal projects
  • Informs, interprets, and recommends the effects of current and impending federal legislation
  • Plans with professional staff in the utilization of funds available to the schools through the various federal programs
  • Makes routine visits to schools to provide input and give feedback
  • Prepares an annual budget and year-end report for funds administered under Federal Programs
  • Conducts staff development on federal laws and procedures for principals, teachers, and other staff as needed
  • Provide oversight of all instructional federal operating in the system
  • Prepare and direct evaluations of assigned programs
  • Interact with parents , outside agencies, business and community to enhance the understanding of system initiatives and prioritie s and to elicit support and assistance
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner
  • Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events
  • Serve on system , state or community councils or committees as assigned or appropriateWork closely with system and school staffs to support school improvement initiatives and processes
  • Direct and evaluate assessment data and research of district initiatives related to instruction
  • Maintain expertise in assigned areas, including laws and rules , as well as current trends and best practices
  • Facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of staff development activities in assigned areas
  • Attend training sessions , conferences and workshops as assigned or appropriate to keep abreast of current practices, programs and legal issues
  • Represent the system in a positive and professional manner
  • Supervise assigned personnel , conduct annual performance appraisals and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of all required reports and maintain all appropriate records
  • Develop annual goals and objectives consistent with and in support of system goals and priorities
  • Assist in implementing the system ' s goals and strategic commitment
  • Set high standards and expectations and promote professional growth for self and others
  • Utilize appropriate strategies and problem-solving tools to make decisions regarding planning, utilizations of funds , delivering services and evaluation of services provided
  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement and take appropriate action
  • Maintain confidentialit y of any Board of Education related business
  • Perform other duties/tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position
  • Any and other essential functions assigned by the Superintendent or Senior Director

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Alabama certificate in Admini s tration and/or valid Administrative Certification from another state
  • Minimum of five years of supervisory / administrative experience required. Principal experience at all levels (K - 12) preferred
  • Master ' s Degree required, Doctorate Degree preferred
  • Minimum of seven years of successful teaching experience
  • Excellent communication, collaboration , and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and experience in supervision and evaluation of professional and non-certified staff preferred
  • Such above qualifications as the Board may require.
