TITLE: Director of Finance & Business Services

JOB GOAL: To manage and administer the business and fiscal affairs of the school system.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or a minimum of five years experience in governmental accounting, or a related field with emphasis on school finance and accounting is preferred, but not required. Minimum of seven years experience in one of the above fields, with at least three years in a supervisory capacity. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and vendors. Ability to supervise people effectively. Ability to present information to individuals and groups. Thorough knowledge of organization and functioning of public schools. Physical demands - position requires mostly sitting and standing. Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling and walking are required, with weights not normally to exceed thirty (30) pounds.
JOB DUTIES:
Monitor and approve the collection and expenditure of funds in compliance with local, state and federal requirements. Develop the budget, coordinating budget implementation. Direct the administration of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll for all programs and services, reviewing and recommending changes in policies as necessary. Approve the investment of funds and checking accounts. Assist State Auditors in resolving problems, as necessary. Assist Superintendent, and Board with financial planning. Assist principals in budget planning and implementation, and with daily business operations of schools. Direct school-level bookkeepers, in conjunction with principals, to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements. Serve on committees, and respond to requests from the Superintendent, Board, and other administrators. Perform administrative duties such as reviewing and signing purchase orders, preparing budget amendments, assisting in the preparation of payroll, and developing reports as requested. Coordinate the risk management program, implementing and maintaining appropriate insurances. Serve as office manager for business services personnel, organizing the department to ensure efficient and effective operations. Attend approved training sessions, staff development activities, and required meetings. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Position works 230 days.
