SUMMARY

The Director of Finance is responsible for all financial activity of the Blue Cross Arena. Duties include financial management and control, accounting and bookkeeping, oversight of purchasing procedures, payroll (union and non-union), and other general financial duties. This individual will develop, install and monitor controls established to safeguard assets and properly record revenues and expenditures according to GAAP. This individual will also serve as Human Resources Manager and be the key point of contact with our Professional Employment Organization (PEO), Paychex, regarding employee onboarding and payroll administration. Additional duties related to event contracting and settlements may be delegated by the Executive Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Complete monthly income statements, balance sheets, cash flow projections, variance to budget reports, and other financial information with appropriate supporting schedules to ensure timely reports to management, the City of Rochester, and VenuWorks' corporate office.

2. Oversee cash flow, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger activities, insurance, taxes, and payroll functions for both union and non-union employees related to the day-to-day business operations.

3. Provide overall financial direction to each of the entities and establish appropriate control procedures, including but not limited to box office activities, cash handling activities, inventory controls, and food & beverage purchasing activities.

4. Assist the Executive Director in the preparation of the annual budget, monthly and year-end reforecasting and other analytical spreadsheets as requested or needed.

5. In conjunction with the VP of HR, serve as a primary contact with VenuWorks' PEO, Paychex. Submit documentation necessary to maintain compliance with employment laws in the State of New York. Provide information necessary for all payroll or other employment related processing and administration.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Maintain oversight of all bank accounts with accuracy and reliability, providing for timely deposits, disbursements, and reconciliations.

2. Provide appropriate information to internal and/or external auditors and assist with final preparation of year-end financial statements.

3. Have a complete understanding of all event contracts and the terms of settlement for facility events. Participate in event settlement activities as requested by the Executive Director.

4. Direct staff in merchandising activities at shows, including in and out counts for merch inventory.

5. Ensure compliance with VenuWorks' policies and procedures and periodically update the finance manual to accurately reflect processes at the managed facilities.

6. Perform other duties, functions and special projects as assigned by the Executive Director and corporate staff of VenuWorks.

7. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervise accounting personnel. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with VenuWorks policies and applicable laws. Responsible for interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining in accordance with Human Resources, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

A demonstrated ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks with a minimum amount of instruction and supervision is essential. Ability to organize workflow and meet established deadlines. Work hours and schedule are generally Monday - Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm but can vary, and may include holidays, evenings and weekends. This position requires skill in meeting and/or exceeding the expectations, being articulate with well-developed communication skills and personal poise. This position requires excellent teamwork skills, working cooperatively with others in the accomplishment of joint tasks and common objectives. Contributes to a positive work environment, fosters collaboration and provides a tangible contribution.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

1. Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University in Accounting, or other Business degree with relevant experience required. Knowledge of human resources and benefits administration strongly preferred. Proficiency in PC-based accounting system required. Proficiency with MS Office programs, particularly Excel, required.

2. Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and business practices using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Certification or designation such as CPA, CIA, etc. is not necessary, but preferred. Applicant must possess a current valid driver's license and current working telephone number that can be accessed by building management for personal or business contact purposes. Must have excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office programs, such as Word and Excel.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, job-related procedures and manuals, and government regulations. Ability to provide management and staff with concise, accurate guidelines regarding financial procedures. Ability to write professional correspondence, prepare business reports, and conduct professional presentations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage. Ability to interpret trends and analyze financial reports and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Strong cash-handling skills, experience with inventory control procedures, and good overall skills in working with numbers.

SALARY RANGE: $80,000 - $100,000 annually, exempt. (Salary determined by applicable position experience and years of experience.)
