Description:

The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the hotel, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and tax compliance. This role requires a strong understanding of financial principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage a team of accounting professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
    • Analyze financial performance and provide insightful reports to management.
    • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Develop annual budgets and forecasts for revenue, expenses, and cash flow.
    • Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, and take corrective action as needed.
    • Analyze variances and provide explanations to management.
  • Accounting Operations:
    • Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
    • Ensure accurate and timely recording of transactions.
    • Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy.
  • Tax Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
    • Prepare and file tax returns in a timely manner.
  • Team Management:
    • Recruit, hire, and train accounting staff.
    • Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team.
    • Evaluate staff performance and provide feedback and coaching.
  • System Implementation and Maintenance:
    • Implement and maintain accounting software and systems.
    • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in hotel accounting or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and tax laws.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and systems.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Additional Considerations
  • Industry Experience: Experience in the hospitality industry is highly preferred.
  • Systems Proficiency: Knowledge of hotel property management systems (PMS) and point-of-sale (POS) systems is beneficial.
  • Analytical Skills: The ability to analyze complex financial data and identify trends is crucial.
  • Attention to Detail: Accurate and precise work is essential in this role.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to identify and resolve financial issues is required.
