SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Fleet and Maintenance Director to oversee all aspects of our heavy construction equipment maintenance operations. The ideal candidate will lead our maintenance team, optimize equipment performance, implement comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for excavators, dozers, loaders, and other heavy machinery, while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and managing costs effectively.

DUTIES
  • Develop and implement specialized preventative maintenance programs for diverse heavy construction equipment
  • Manage maintenance technicians specializing in hydraulic systems, powertrains, and heavy equipment repair
  • Create and monitor maintenance budgets with focus on minimizing downtime of critical construction assets
  • Establish and enforce safety protocols specific to heavy equipment maintenance and operation
  • Oversee parts inventory management for specialized construction equipment components
  • Analyze equipment performance metrics to identify patterns of wear and failure in high-stress applications
  • Implement and manage diagnostic and maintenance tracking systems for heavy construction machinery
  • Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to schedule maintenance with minimal impact on projects
  • Develop specifications for new equipment purchases based on jobsite requirements and equipment performance
  • Investigate equipment failures to determine root causes in challenging construction environments
  • Create comprehensive maintenance documentation and equipment history records
  • Establish quality control standards for heavy equipment repairs and rebuilds
REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years of experience managing maintenance of heavy construction equipment fleets
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, heavy equipment technology, or equivalent work experience
  • Expert knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and heavy equipment repair methodologies
  • Experience with construction equipment diagnostic tools and maintenance management systems
  • Strong understanding of OSHA, MSHA, and EPA regulations related to heavy equipment operation
  • Proven leadership skills managing heavy equipment technicians and repair operations
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities with focus on minimizing equipment downtime
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with field operations and project managers
  • Proficiency in parts inventory management and repair cost control for heavy machinery
  • Technical training related to heavy equipment repair (Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, etc.)
  • Prefer experience with diverse heavy equipment manufacturers and models
  • Prefer background in implementing predictive maintenance for high-value construction assets
  • Prefer knowledge of telematics systems for equipment performance monitoring
  • Prefer experience managing maintenance in remote or challenging jobsite environments
  • Project management certification or experience in construction settings
