Overview

Assembly is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and solutions-driven Director, Growth to lead critical efforts across our entire business development pipeline. Reporting directly to the EVP of Growth, this role will oversee their own pod within the Growth team and collaborate closely with strategy, creative, and media leaders to drive breakthrough new business pursuits. This individual is both a business development strategist and a strong operational leader - someone who excels at translating client needs into compelling narratives, while ensuring flawless process execution and team enablement.

The ideal candidate brings a hybrid background in business development, strategic marketing, client service, and storytelling - with a passion for uncovering client challenges, architecting tailored solutions, and leading winning pursuits that drive agency growth.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of new business opportunities, from prospecting and background research through pitch delivery and client onboarding.
  • Partner with the EVP of Growth to define pursuit strategies, craft opportunity-specific narratives, and align internal teams around a clear vision for success.
  • Work directly with prospects, consultants, and internal partners to uncover brand challenges and ambitions, then translate them into differentiated solutions.
  • Shape and mold proposals, RFI/RFP responses, and pitch presentations to clearly communicate Assembly's value and the measurable impact on client growth.
  • Streamline, evolve, and optimize business development processes, tools, workflows, and reporting to maximize speed, clarity, and effectiveness.
  • Serve as the strategic and operational link across Strategy, Creative, Media, Data, and Leadership teams to ensure cohesion and momentum throughout the pitch process.
  • Guide intelligence gathering on industry trends, category dynamics, and client business models to inform strategic positioning.
  • Ensure case studies, bios, and agency credentials are current, high-impact, and tailored for each pursuit.
  • Cultivate relationships with procurement partners, new business consultants, and strategic collaborators to uncover and nurture new opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities for process, platform, and storytelling innovation that help Assembly stand out and evolve its approach to growth.
  • Manage and mentor a full growth pod, fostering their growth while ensuring executional excellence across multiple pursuits.


Required Skills

  • 5-7 years of Business Development / Growth, account management, client services and or marketing experience within an agency environment
  • Strong understanding of marketing services - across digital and traditional channels
  • Ability to simplify complex content and solutions into impactful communications and visuals
  • Ability to position and customize content to clearly address the client/prospect situation
  • Ability to support multiple key players throughout the new business process on extremely tight deadlines
  • Excellent PowerPoint and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and able to rapidly respond to requests
  • Strong project management skills
  • Positive attitude under pressure

In order to comply with equal pay and salary transparency laws in various locations, we believe the target range of base compensation in all locations within the United States for this role is $100,000-140,000USD. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and location.
