QUALIFICATIONS:

  • REPORTS TO: Principal

    JOB GOAL: To help students in educational, personal/social, and career development and to supervise the activities of the guidance department and its staff.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures for the department's operation.
  • Evaluates the guidance program periodically and seeks improvement.
  • Prepares and submits to the principal an annual report of departmental activities and developments.
  • Interprets the guidance program to the school staff, the administration, and the community.
  • Assists in the articulation of guidance services at various school levels, especially between the middle and high school grades.
  • Assists in the screening, interviewing, and recommending of department personnel.
  • Supervises procedures of all counselors in the department on a systematic basis and evaluates personnel annually or whenever appropriate.
  • Prepares and administers a departmental budget.
  • Responsible for organization and administration of standardized testing at the New London High School.
  • Organizes and develops a course selection guide.
  • Communicates clearly to students, parents, and the community the services provided by the Guidance Department.
  • Performs such other related tasks as the principal may from time to time assign.
  • SUMMER PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists in planning and implementing the master schedule for New London High School.
  • Registers new students and ensures proper class placement.
  • Sends, receives, and evaluates students transcripts.
  • Corrects scheduling errors and balances students' schedules.
  • Assists the registrar in sending out report cards.
  • Answers questions concerning grades arising after the teachers leave for the summer.
  • Assists in revising the student handbook.
  • Assists the administration in planning for the opening of school in September.
  • Performs such other related duties as the principal may from time to time assign.

  • SALARY: Stipend as determined by current NLEA contract
