Director of Health, Safety and Environment

Description of the Role:

Reporting to the Vice-President, the Director of Health, Safety & Environment will guide and oversee the strategic direction and champion Kleysen's safety, training and compliance, and claims & licensing for our diverse business units in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta and our fleet that transport goods across Canada by rail and over-the-road.

The Director, Health, Safety & Environment will provide strong and strategic leadership with two dedicated Managers, Health & Safety and their teams to develop a consistent and strategic approach to our health, safety, training and compliance programs while understanding the unique operational challenges of each business unit. The Director will work closely with the Vice-Presidents of each Business Unit to integrate these programs within their operations.

The focus of this leader will include:

• Continue to develop and enhance our Safety 1st culture in each of our diverse business units and locations.
• Driver training & compliance - champion comprehensive driver training and compliance, tools, and resources, to enhance driver skills and safety.
• Claims and licensing - oversee insurance and claims to manage risk, mitigate and manage costs while preserving customer relationships.

Knowledge & Experience:

• Post-secondary education in health and safety management.
• Extensive leadership experience in leading diverse teams.
• Strong people skills with proven success to coach and develop a management team and an ability to relate with all employees, drivers, and owner operators.
• Ability to integrate areas of responsibilities with the operational needs of other business units to create cohesive strategies and establish relationships with management and executive team.
• Solid business acumen and forward thinking in identifying strategies for short and long-term goals.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft products to create, store and manage communication and in tune with technology/software as it impacts business and your areas of responsibility.
• Excellent communication skills to build relationships, problem solve and negotiate solutions with both internal and external customers, vendors, etc.
• Ability to regularly travel to other locations .
