Position Title: Director of Inpatient Programs

Classification: Exempt

Department: Clinical Support Services

Reports To: VP Clinical Services

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director is responsible for the interdisciplinary operations of the Inpatient Programs. The Director oversees inpatient therapy and collaborates closely with nursing and providers. The Director ensures exceptional, team-oriented rehabilitation care by supporting an evidence-based, "best practice" and patient-centered approach to program development. The Director ensures that the team adheres to all Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF) regulations and documentation requirements.

Starting Wage: $108,751.93/yr.

The posted wage is the current starting wage for this position. Actual wage is dependent on the applicant's relevant experience and qualifications for this position. The wage range for this position may be subject to change in the future depending on a variety of factors such as market conditions, business needs, legal developments, and other appropriate factors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification/Licensure:
  • Valid State of Hawaii driver's license
  • Current State of Hawaii Physical Therapy, Occupational, or Speech Therapy licensure.
  • Current BLS certification

Education:
  • Master's or Doctoral Degree from an accredited school of Physical, Occupational or Speech Therapy

Skills/Experience:
  • Five (5) years clinical experience in a rehabilitation setting. Two (2) years supervisory experience


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification/Licensure:
  • Advanced certification in a therapy specialty.

Education:
  • Master's or Doctoral Degree in related therapy specialty, business, healthcare administration or related field.

Skills/Experience:
  • Three (3) years of Director level experience.
  • Strong planning, financial and analytical skills to effectively evaluate and lead projects of major impact to the organization.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically to solve problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Experience managing multiple responsibilities while maintaining excellent customer service standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Directs, develops, implements, and effectively manages therapy inpatient programs and services to support REHAB's mission and strategic goals and objectives.
  • Leads, guides, develops and oversees employees in their essential job functions.
  • Analyzes key performance indicators, quality outcomes, and stakeholder input.
  • Builds a comprehensive program model of care for each of REHAB's identified clinical areas.
  • Assesses market demands and identifies opportunities to revise or develop new programs.
  • Develops and implements employee training programs, knowledge and skills competencies.
  • Effectively develops, manages and plans the department's operational and capital budget.
  • Ensures programs and services meet regulatory requirements, in collaboration with Quality Management, Compliance and Risk leadership.
  • Maximizes inpatient utilization through marketing, outreach and patient selection, in collaboration with other REHAB leaders, promotes growth.
  • Ensures the inpatient rehabilitation team has the resources necessary to provide exceptional patient care.
  • Oversees staffing and scheduling of employees to maintain compliance with IRF staffing levels and productivity requirements.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement, including but not limited to administrative systems, communications, clinical processes and employment practices.
  • Provides and documents patient or client therapy, as allowed under professional licensure, and as necessary for operational needs.
  • Follows and adheres to all organizational and departmental policies and guidelines, code of conduct, and REHAB employee handbook.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for the hiring, orienting, training, coaching, counseling and development of employees
  • Ensures the employees are trained appropriately and maintains adequate level of competency to perform job duties; develops personnel to meet future requirements. Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations for improving processes.
  • Develops and ensures the development of performance standards for areas of responsibility, monitors, reviews and evaluates performance for quality assurance; provides feedback to staff and takes corrective action when necessary.
  • Responsible for the creation, implementation, and ensuring adherence to appropriate policies and procedures for departments and the hospital.

  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with external and internal customers to include patients, physicians, other managers and employees, surveyors, contractors and vendors.


FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
  • Assists Executive Leadership in preparing the department(s) assigned budgets
  • Maintains a fiscal responsibility to oversee assigned cost centers, monitors and tracks expenditures and provides explanations for variances.
  • Comprehends departments budget and presents on key metrics
  • Serves as the central resource for the development and implementation of strategies which are efficient, effective, timely, patient-centered, medically appropriate for an acute rehabilitation level of care, and supports appropriate financial reimbursement
