Sedron Technologies is hiring a talented Director of Instrumentation & Controls in the Pacific Northwest! (Bellingham or Sedro Woolley, WA)

Founded in 2014 and headquartered in the Pacific Northwest, Sedron Technologies designs, manufactures, installs, and operates advanced water and waste upcycling technologies. With a focus on transforming the paradigm from waste processing to resource recovery, Sedron Technologies works with municipal, agricultural, and industrial customers to process their "waste" into climate-smart commodities through environmentally and financially sustainable methods.

The Director of Instrumentation & Controls will spearhead the development, implementation, and optimization of cutting-edge process control systems for Sedron's advanced resource recovery technologies. With a focus on reliability, efficiency, and industry standards, this role blends expertise in process control automation, instrumentation, and integration. You'll be at the helm of architecting, designing, and supporting the construction and commissioning of multiple high-impact projects, each worth over $100M, in the dynamic world of industrial process controls and automation.
Because we design, build, commission, and operate our technologies, we are looking for individuals who can meet the following essential functions of the position:

Own Process Equipment Electrical Design & Establish Company Standards
Lead UL 508A compliance, sensors, instrumentation, and VFD integration within skids
Establish electrical and instrumentation standards to optimize performance and reliability
Define power distribution for lower-energy systems like pumps and valves

Lead PLC & Controls Development
Oversee coding standards, architecture, DevOps, and cybersecurity best practices
Automate software builds, testing, deployment, and system health monitoring
Ensure site reliability and incident response strategies

Manage & Mentor a High-Performing Controls Team
Lead engineers and automation specialists to meet project goals
Develop training programs to cultivate future engineering leaders
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence
Demonstrate professionalism, strong communication, and the ability to work independently and with teams
Solve complex engineering challenges and deliver high-quality results

Collaborate Cross-Functionally for Performance & Safety
Work with multiple engineering disciplines during early project stages (FEL-2/FEL-3)
Provide scopes of work to ensure efficient and complete designs
Oversee UL 508A compliance in during manufacturing
Provide startup and commissioning resources for system readiness
Collaborate with commissioning leads to ensure smooth site integration
Support manufacturing, construction, and commissioning teams for seamless execution

Oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
Ensure PLCs and electronics are fully prepared for checkout before deployment
Minimize on-site commissioning by delivering validated, functional systems

Evaluate & Implement Advanced Control Technologies
Select and integrate instrumentation, SCADA, telemetry, and data analysis solutions
Troubleshoot and resolve complex control system issues
Maintain documentation, including control narratives, network architecture, and HMI design

Ensure Compliance & Best Practices
Develop and enforce standards for system integration, cybersecurity, and reliability
Ensure designs meet regulatory requirements (NFPA, ISA, IEC, NEC, etc.)

Other Duties as Assigned

This position has multiple levels of competency to be determined by performance, certifications, and supervisor discretion.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation, Mechanical, or a related field
15+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls, and instrumentation.
5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams and projects
Strong knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA systems, and industrial networks
Experience with process control strategies, including systemization, PID tuning and loop optimization
Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in industrial and/or manufacturing environments (e.g., chemical processing, petrochemical, pulp and paper, or water treatment)
Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing experience for process improvement
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to pass a respirator fit test
Comfortable working in various environments, including heights, confined spaces, and varying temperatures
Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Wage range for this role is between $140,000 - $185,000 annually
Travel up to 15% to support multiple facilities
Discretionary bonus
The range provided is Sedron's estimate of the base compensation for this role. Actual amount offered will be based on job-related and non-discriminatory factors such as experience, location, education, training, skills, and abilities.
