The Director of Intake must be able to move patients into nursing facilities, long- term care, hospices, senior living centers and similar places. Work with hospitals, developing good relationships with those facilities to understand the individual's needs, work with nurses and medical staff at their facility to make sure they are prepared for the person with all vital information. Plans, organizes, directs, and controls patient registration and hospital admitting operations.

Essential Functions:
  • Responds to inquiry calls - completes inquiry forms accurately, schedules assessments in a timely manner and documents follow-up calls made regarding pending assessments.
  • Refers patients who are not appropriate for facility programs to appropriate resources.
  • Oversees Intake department and employees; trains employees the admission process; analyzes data to determine focus.
  • Manages employees completing admission forms and CIA documents accurately.
  • Promotes specialty clinics in the community to highlight Adult and/or Geriatric Psychiatry Unit's program and services; maintains community relations.
  • Maintains daily communication with co-workers to ensure quality service to customers; provides feedback to measure effectiveness of strategies.
  • Coordinates admissions process for patients admitted to facility programs.
  • Tracks performance and conversion rates; performs audits to make processes seamless.
  • Follows up with any complaints and/or issues within the department.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.


  • Requirements

    Educational / Experience Requirements:Associate's Degree in business administration, health information technology, or similar. Experience working with the clientele, whether it be seniors, special needs, etc. is encouraged.

    Qualifications / Skills:Intake Directors talk with healthcare workers, doctors, nurses, families and patients on a daily basis. Must be friendly, able to listen to people's needs and concerns, and explain complicated concepts in a clear and concise way. The Director will work with the people who may be injured, infirmed, or confused and their families. The Director will work with medical records and must organize and process this information for use in their facility. The Director will use computers to input data and may need to use coding and classification software and EHR systems. Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral health de-escalation program.

    Work Environment:Subject to many interruptions. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. This position can be high paced and stressful; must be able to cope mentally and physically to atmosphere. Work requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
