DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

World Languages Department
  • Administers the world language program in accordance with Regulations and Virginia's Standards of Accreditation
  • Coordinates and facilitates textbook adoption committees
  • Prepares and maintains textbooks and other resources
  • Coordinates division-wide world language educational activities and events
  • Hosts regular meetings with high school instructional leaders (ILs) and middle school teachers

ELL Department
  • Oversees the division's Title III grant and program for English Language Learners (ELLs) and ensures compliance with state and federal laws
  • Oversees the state ELL ACCESS 2.0 test administration and all of the required components (i.e., secures accommodations for all students, ensures that technology needs are met, coordinates opt-out testing)
  • Oversees departmental budget and Title III grant to ensure timely and correct spending of the Title III grant and Immigrant and Youth grant, when awarded
  • Serves as the central office contact and liaison with parents and the community regarding the division's world language and ELL instructional programs
  • Monitors the creation and implementation of the Language Instruction Educational Plans (LIEP) for all ELs
  • Ensures all testing accommodations are in place and delivered to the HCS Testing Department and school testing coordinators
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with community partners and stakeholders (e.g. Catholic Charities)
  • Manage and oversee the use of Language Line and the document translation protocols
  • Hosts regular collaborate learning team (CLT) meetings with the whole department

Dual Language Immersion Program
  • Oversees the DLI Program at Langley Elementary School
  • Coordinates curriculum writing and resources for the program
  • Works in collaboration with the school administration to ensure quality instruction
  • Provides professional learning opportunities for both the Spanish and English sides of the DLI Program

All Departments and Programs
  • Supervises and evaluates administrative staff, Teacher Specialist, Family Engagement Specialist, and itinerant ELL teachers assigned to the ELL Department
  • Analyzes data and uses information to determine the effectiveness of instructional methods and programs to drive recommended revisions and improvements
  • Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates professional development opportunities for staff and teachers
  • Visits schools and conducts walk throughs on a regular basis to ensure consistency of the instructional program from classroom to classroom and school to school
  • Assists teachers by modeling lessons or coaching on an as needed basis
  • Attends professional development activities to include workshops and conferences to expand professional skills
  • Coordinates meetings with teachers and administrators, and disseminates information regarding current developments in the field
  • Serves as division representative on a variety of committees
  • Prepares division reports as required
  • Prepares and presents to School Board upon request
  • Works in a collaborative manner with members of the HCS Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Team

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Applicant must hold a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in a world language OR English as a second language
  • Must hold or be eligible eligible for the Administration and Supervision PreK-12 endorsement
  • Applicant must demonstrate the personal characteristics and leadership qualities necessary to work effectively with administrators, teachers, parents and students
