JOB TITLE: Director of Magnet and Choice Programs

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Specialized Services

SALARY: Based on State and Local Salary Schedules

STATUS: Permanent, 100%, 12 months, Certified

SUMMARY: The Director of Magnet and Choice Programs serves as the instructional leader for application schools and innovative programming in schools. Responsibilities include establishing and maintaining standards and processes for curricular programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • Provide leadership and direction in application school programming.
  • Plan, organize, and direct unique and specialized curriculum and educational approaches for application schools.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure equitable access to the choice and/or innovative programs.
  • Provide leadership for the districts' application schools program development, implementation, sustainability and evaluation, with goals/outcomes including: a focus on diversity and equity, Innovative presentation and events that showcase the school's uniqueness.
  • Oversee professional development pertaining to specialized programs and professional development that supports comprehensive theme integration.
  • Collaborate within and across academic departments and operational services to support specialized programming and ensure alignment.
  • Develop systems and processes to ensure equitable access to program support and to monitor program fidelity.
  • Assist with district strategic planning.
  • Prepare and deliver written and oral presentations to the Board of Education, principals, teachers, parents, and community groups. Represent the department in internal and external meetings concerning application programs and Growing Together.
  • Oversee the Showcase of Schools event.
  • Develop and oversee department budget including the procurement of grant funding. Assist with monitoring and administration of magnet budget, Growing Together, Outdoor Learning, and Career & College Readiness to ensure fidelity to establish rules.
  • Provides leadership to ensure academic excellence for all students, especially underrepresented populations.
  • Coordinate with other DPS departments to ensure seamless support and implementation of the Growing Together Plan (revised student assignment policy, new rules of access, specialized programs, new school regions and redistricted boundaries, and outstanding academic programming).
  • Provide presentations and workshops to small and large groups of teachers to accelerate the use of exemplary instructional practices and improve student achievement.
  • Review, recommend, and/or develop support materials to enhance learning and achievement.
  • Observe classroom instruction and offer feedback for improvement.
  • Monitor student success in classes using observations, benchmark tests, standardized test results, progress reports, attendance data, and discipline data.
  • Coordinate, implement and attend local school meetings, district coordinator meetings and professional development regarding the implementation of application school programs.
  • Monitor state and national issues and trends related to application/magnet schools.
  • Direct, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the work of assigned personnel.
  • Initiate and administer grant funding to support specialized programming.
  • Collaborate with peers, parents, community, and other stakeholders in the continuous improvement of classroom educational experiences of students.
  • Lead in the evaluation of instructional methods and programs, recommending how such methods and programs could be implemented in the district.
  • Collaborate in the development of strategic plans to meet the objectives set forth by the Superintendent and the Board of Education.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and principals in recruitment, retention, and placement of personnel.
  • Monitor assigned budgets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Specialized Services.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Master's Degree in Educational Administration or Leadership or equivalent
  • Five years or more in experience in magnet programs or school leadership
  • Demonstrated mastery of 21st C technology skills: Google, Microsoft Office, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience of successfully working within a culturally diverse setting
  • Demonstrated experience of leading a highly effective team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of specialized programs, DPS policies and procedures, and curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to prioritize and relentless focus on results.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently. Possesses skill set to be able to identify an issue, conduct research and use the data to develop programming, intervention etc.
  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform at an elevated level, as a team player, in a team environment.
  • Ability to relate well and collaborate with diverse groups of people to produce desired results.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. 8. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Capacity to work beyond the traditional workday-evenings and occasional weekend commitment.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force to move objects; classification consistent with Light Work.
