About the Role

The Director, Operations will plan, implement, and administer the overall processes, policies, and goals for the department to support the needs of our clients. In addition, they will plan, guide, and execute the overall workflow and direction of multiple teams/pods in our organization. The Director is responsible for managing the operational teams to provide exceptional customer service and on-time performance while providing leadership, direction, and support for employee development. This position is responsible for maximizing margins / cost control and managing load volume and staffing. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the transportation industry and have a successful record of managing a large operation. Excellent people skills, communication skills and organization skills are critical to success.

What the Candidate Will Do
  • Review, analyze, and own all matters related to P&Ls
  • Deliver cost savings / cost containment to customer and/or Uber Freight
  • Ensure optimal use of Uber Freight's technology (TMS), e.g. standard practices, compliance, automation, timeliness, etc.
  • Proactively identify and communicate issues, propose, and implement solutions for continuous improvement regarding processes, cost, service, and profitability
  • Retain ownership of Cascading Account Goals (SMART) and Business Reviews (Creation, Development, Presentation)
  • Work closely with Strategic Account Management philosophy to maintain and grow Uber Freight's business with the customer; incorporating ROI delivered to customer over the life of the contract
  • Understand and apply all aspects of customer contracts
  • Drive customer retention through reinforcing and exceptional customer experience that "Thrills the Customer"
  • Build and maintain positive working partnerships with carriers while ensuring that Uber Freight processes and procedures are followed
  • Engage Management Team as business partners on a regular basis to discuss career development, current performance, and training opportunities (cross-account, cross-functional, etc.)
  • Monitor and hold team accountable for all key job functions, administer internal performance management reports, and actively engage in and champion the Talent Review Process throughout the 3PL Organization
  • Lead efforts to hire/develop/retain/engage productive employees through commitment to training, performance management, mentoring, cross-training and professional development
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships internally across all departments and functional areas, as well as externally with customers and key suppliers
  • Actively participate in new account gate reviews
  • Assist project team in preparation for customer facing meetings
  • Work with peers to standardize onboarding methodology to include Systems applications, SOPs, Account governance (OGSM/MDI/Reporting)
  • Oversee strategy and ensure execution of procurement process

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years of transportation/logistics industry experience
  • Advanced English (written and spoken)
  • High level understanding of ERP integration flows with TMS applications
  • Up to 20% travel

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven experience in intermodal, drayage, and transportation economics as well as customer management and service
  • 10 years of supervisory experience
  • 10 years of experience managing other management personnel
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Experience using SAP enterprise resource planning
  • Working Knowledge and Utilization of the appropriate transportation management system
