A day in the life of this role:
The Director of Nursing, reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, is responsible for the overall operation of clinical nursing services within Outer Cape Health Services ("OCHS"). The incumbent will work in collaboration with the CMO and Site Medical Directors to ensure effective leadership within clinical teams and quality patient services. The Director pf Nursing coordinates comprehensive organization-wide infection prevention and control program and works collaboratively with the Health Center Directors to meet OCHS's overall goals. The Director of Nursing provides strategic leadership in patient-centered, team-based care, ensuring seamless coordination among nurses, providers, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.

A day in the life of this role:
The Director of Nursing, reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, is responsible for the overall operation of clinical nursing services within Outer Cape Health Services ("OCHS"). The incumbent will work in collaboration with the CMO and Site Medical Directors to ensure effective leadership within clinical teams and quality patient services. The Director of Nursing provides strategic leadership in patient-centered, team-based care, ensuring seamless coordination among nurses, providers, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
Summary of duties:
- Provide clinical supervision of health center nurse managers.
- Through the nurse managers, oversees adequate nursing and medical assistant staffing to support the primary care physician staff and specialty care staff.
- Fosters a culture of collaboration by leading interdisciplinary care teams, including physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and medical assistants, to deliver integrated patient care.
- Empowers nursing teams to take leadership in team-based care initiatives, such as chronic disease management programs and patient-centered medical home (PCMH) models.
- Ensure conformance with OCHS's policies and procedures for scheduling, time and attendance reporting for the nursing and medical assistant staffing.
- Ensure nurse managers evaluate all nursing personnel at least annually on their nursing competencies and have a performance improvement plan for those areas requiring further development.
- Ensure nurse managers continuously evaluate health centers access and health care delivery model to ensure goals are regularly met or exceeded. Through the nurse managers, maintains system for monitoring "next available" appointments, patient waiting (cycle) times, overall patient satisfaction and outcomes according to established quality improvement indicators
- Collaborate with COO, Chief Medical Officer and department managers to maximize communication and collaboration between all disciplines, sites and departments and to resolve any barriers to quality, team focused service delivery
- Responsible for the development, maintenance and implementation of all clinical nursing policies and procedures, in coordination with CMO
- Collaborate with the CMO and other management staff in the development and implementation of clinical protocols, and health center standards of care; Participates in all Accreditation and Licensure site visits and other site visits as necessary for OCHS to meet its goals
- Unless otherwise delegated to the nurse managers, provides oversight for OCHS's quality improvement process, including staffing the Quality Committee, assuring implementation and completion of QI action plans, and development of key indicators for monitoring quality of health center services
- Ensure meaningful participation of the nurse managers in team meetings daily/weekly at each site to provide leadership on care planning, nursing functions and other clinical issues
- Participate in the development of overall OCHS goals and quality measures, representing the interests of all sites
- Establish and maintain competencies of clinical nursing and medical assistant staff
- Ensure reporting/integration of information in to credentialing/re-credentialing process
- Remain flexible to complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Ensure nurse managers maintain adequate clinical supplies and are accountable for capturing their use, and at least annual review of the quality of the selected items in the inventory.
Work environment:
- Travel to all three sites, as required
Qualifications
What we need from you:
- Bachelor's Degree in nursing, MSN preferred
- 5 years' management experience in Community Health Center or outpatient healthcare setting
- Knowledge of and experience with EMRs and other clinical software
- Strong leadership and management skills and the ability to build and maintain high performing teams.
