Position Summary

The Director of Operations is responsible for the daily activities required to operate, maintain, and service the athletics facilities and/or the events. The Director of Operations will direct, supervise, and schedule all aspects of Operations including Maintenance, Conversions, Housekeeping Services, and coordinating with Event Safety and Security contractors. The Director manages subordinate supervisors in the following departments: Conversions, Housekeeping Services, and Maintenance, and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units and supervisory responsibilities in accordance with applicable policies and laws. The Director is responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training Operations employees; appraising performance; rewarding, and disciplining employees. The Director of Operations will also be responsible for the following Operations department fiscal management duties: Formulate the annual operating budget and recommend repairs and improvements to the facilities; Present monthly financial statement including year-to-date expenses, expenses compared to budget, and year-end projections; Authorize the requisition of equipment and supplies within budget guidelines.

This role pays an annual salary of $105,000-$125,000 and is bonus eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Operations activities with designated UH unit to assure facility readiness and smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Provides clear, concise, and timely communication of directives to leadership and supporting entities
  • Ensures that the Operations Staff receive pertinent information for the most effective use of the facilities and staffing
  • Responsible for event production for identified non-UH Athletics events including managing, planning, budgeting, and coordination of event operations for 4-6 events annually and several smaller private events.
  • Develops and oversees program to train all employees on Fire/Life Safety, Emergency and OSHA Procedures.
  • Investigates, analyzes, and resolves operational problems and complaints.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to discuss procedures, problems, and policy changes.
  • Oversee Computerized Maintenance Management System (e.g., 24/7) and establishes protocols or work orders assignment and completion in a timely manner.
  • Works closely with the commensurate UH unit lead in the preparation and negotiation of Service Agreements.
  • Negotiates with applicable vendors, contractors and/or service providers.
  • Ensures preventive maintenance schedules, emergency procedures, safety, and Risk Management policies are developed and implemented.
  • Serve as incident assessment and response contact for athletics facilities with UH Emergency Management Include the following.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of supervisory and/or management experience in athletic venue (arenas, stadiums, Olympic sports) operations
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to effectively supervise and lead staff
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills required; ability to interact with all levels of staff including senior management
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and as a team member
  • Strong attention to details
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Email, Excel, Word) or comparable spreadsheet software, work processing software. Some CAD (e.g. event diagrams) capabilities are preferred.
