Summary:
The School of Medicine's largest department, Internal Medicine, is recruiting a Director of Operations to provide operational management and support to the department's 11 sub-specialty divisions, which are fundamentally supported by nine Associate Administrators. The Director will be responsible for the strategic management, planning, policy formation, and implementation of programs and/or services to ensure daily and long-term objectives are met. The incumbent will work in collaboration with departmental and divisional senior leadership to develop strategic operations processes.
Core Responsibilities
Partners with the Sr. Administrator in the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the 11 sub-specialty divisions including: strategic planning, clinical operations, ambulatory and hospital alignment, human resources, business development, recruitment and other components of the departments' mission
Establish synchronicity of business processed across all components of the tripartite mission
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Extensive knowledge of financial, operations and administrative policies and procedures
Exceptional decision-making skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to design, manage, and implement programs
Experience serving as a leader by building, leading, motivating, and assessing teams
Experience in holding employees accountable for individual results and drive overall effectiveness of team
Demonstrate ability to plan and direct the implementation and modification of technological components of multiple functional areas
Demonstrate ability to collect, analyze, and interpret information
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Master's degree
10 years' relevant professional experience
