Position Overview:
The Director of Quality Assurance (QA) is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of quality assurance processes and systems within the organization. This role will ensure that all products and services meet the highest quality standards and comply with industry regulations. The Director of QA will work closely with cross-functional teams to foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement across all operations.
This role offers a unique opportunity for a highly skilled leader with DoD experience to have a direct impact on quality assurance efforts within a highly regulated environment, driving improvements in product and delivery and business operations while ensuring compliance with critical DoD standards and requirements. The role may necessitate occasional travel for business meetings, conferences, or training sessions, depending on organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:
- Lead and mentor the QA team, fostering a culture of quality across the organization.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive QA strategy that aligns with business goals and customer expectations.
- Establish and monitor KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to measure quality performance and progress.
- Ensure the QA department is adequately staffed and resourced to meet operational needs.
Quality Assurance Management:
- Develop QMS that is compliant with ISO-9001 and other relevant standards
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance processes and procedures to ensure product/service quality meets and exceeds standards.
- Ensure quality processes throughout the development of new and revised products, embedding expertise in DFMEA, PFMEA, Quality Control Plans, DFM, QFD
- Manage the testing, inspection, and validation of products and services, identifying opportunities for process improvements.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions to address quality issues, minimize defects, and ensure continuous improvement.
- Embed problem solving tools such as 8D, 5Ws, to correct and prevent issues from reoccurring
- Embed a culture of quality accountability throughout the business, including in line quality inspections and reporting.
- Conduct regular audits of products, services, and systems to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
- Lead supplier quality initiatives including a vigorous auditing strategy and performance monitoring to ensure the quality of goods and services meet requirements.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with senior leadership and other departments to ensure quality standards are aligned with organizational objectives.
- Serve as the primary liaison for quality-related matters, both internally and with external stakeholders such as customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
- Provide guidance and training to employees across various departments on quality standards and best practices.
Risk Management & Compliance:
- Monitor regulatory requirements and industry standards to ensure the organization's quality management systems remain compliant.
- Lead or participate in external audits and inspections by regulatory bodies, ensuring timely resolution of any non-compliance issues.
- Manage the documentation and reporting of quality-related issues, ensuring timely and accurate communication with stakeholders.
- Develop expertise in risk management tools, FMEA, risk matrix
Continuous Improvement:
- Foster a continuous improvement mindset, supporting the organization's commitment to lean, and other best practice methodologies to enhance product quality and process efficiency.
- Analyze trends in quality data to identify potential areas of concern and proactively address them.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in quality assurance, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- In-depth knowledge of quality management systems, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Strong understanding of continuous improvement methodologies, such as Lean and Kaizen.
- Experience in developing and implementing QA strategies and processes in DoD environment, across multiple manufacturing sites and business functions
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in quality management (e.g., ASQ CQE, Six Sigma Black Belt).
- Familiarity with relevant and best practices in quality management software tools and systems.
- Working knowledge of international QMS and Testing standards (ISO, TUV, EN, EU, CE, etc.) is beneficial
