Position Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Resort Finance & Accounting plays a key leadership role in ensuring the financial health and operational success of our resort activities. This position oversees all resort-related financial operations, including reporting, compliance, and internal controls, while driving efficiency and transparency across accounting processes. As a strategic partner to senior leadership, the Director will lead the resort accounting team and provide thoughtful financial insights to help guide decision-making and support Powder Mountain's long-term vision. The ideal candidate brings in-depth accounting expertise with a strong background in the ski resort industry, understanding the unique financial rhythms, operational considerations, and seasonal dynamics that come with running a mountain resort.

Requirements

Financial Management & Reporting
  • Oversee all financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal policies.
  • Manage the resort piece of financial audits.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports and present key insights to senior leadership.
  • Develop and monitor key financial metrics for resort operations.

Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Lead the annual budgeting process for the resort and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develop financial forecasts to support strategic decision-making.
  • Analyze financial trends and variances, providing recommendations for cost efficiencies.
  • Work closely with department heads to track and manage budgets effectively.

Cash Flow & Revenue Management
  • Oversee cash flow management and ensure liquidity for resort operations.
  • Manage revenue recognition and ensure accurate accounting for resort activities, including ticket sales, memberships, food & beverage, and other revenue streams.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to optimize revenue and control costs.

Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial regulations.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve accounting policies and procedures.
  • Oversee resort tax filings, property tax assessments, and other regulatory reporting.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the resort accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
  • Collaborate with the Real Estate & Development Financial Director, as well as the shared service team members of the finance department.
  • Establish performance goals and conduct regular performance evaluations.
  • Provide training and support to ensure team members stay current with accounting best practices and technologies.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to support financial initiatives.

Technology & Process Improvement
  • Oversee financial systems and software, ensuring efficient and accurate data management.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements in financial operations.
  • Work closely with IT and other departments to optimize financial reporting tools and systems.


Requirements and/or Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in the ski resort or private ski club industry.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial regulations, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in financial software including managing integrations, Sage Intacct, ERP systems, and Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak seasons or financial reporting periods.
  • Must be able to navigate the resort environment, including ski areas and mountain terrain, as needed.
  • Mostly indoors with occasional need to be outdoors on-site.
