JOB PURPOSE:
Administration of the Respiratory Care and Care Management Departments, defining and maintaining
standards of practice for service delivery and organizational performance strategies consistent with
Piedmont Healthcare. Responsible for establishing department objectives in collaboration with other
clinical and operational stakeholders including key physicians and other health care disciplines involved.
Serves as part of a collaborative management team focused on promoting the Mission, Vision, and
Values of Piedmont Healthcare and the Respiratory Care and Care Management Departments,
embracing a person-centered philosophy while promoting services across the continuum and enhancing
value-driven outcomes. Responsible for designing the organizational structure to support services for
Respiratory Care and Care Management, ensuring high quality patient care and enhancing accountability
for value-driven outcomes

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops standards of performance, policies and procedures for designated areas of
responsibility.
2. Organizes the areas of responsibility in accordance with administrative guidelines in order to
provide specified Respiratory and patient care services to meet organizational, regulatory
privacy and Medical Staff guidelines.
3. Ensures that Care Management services, which include case management and social work, are
delivered in accordance with evidence-based guidelines, established standards of care practice
and performance, hospital policies and procedures.

4. Monitor effectiveness by analyzing Average Length of Stay, Case Mix Index, avoidable days,
denials, and other key metrics.
5. Oversees planning, growth and strategic initiatives for assigned departments; Ensures
appropriate training and resources are available to all staff within budgetary constraints, and
promotes professional growth of all staff.
6. Functions in an advisory capacity to executive leadership in evaluating proposed changes as they
relate to these departments.
7. Directs implementation and ensures compliance with standards of Respiratory and professional
practice that promotes optimum health care delivery along the lifecycle continuum.
8. Identifies opportunities for improved customer value.
9. Manages Patient/Physician/Staff Satisfaction.
10. Serves as part of a collaborative management team focused on promoting the Mission, Vision
and Values of Piedmont Healthcare. Provides direction to staff, collaborates in decision making
and encourages staff participation at all levels to meet unit-based objectives. Supervises
performance of and timekeeping for assigned staff.
11. Develops and monitors the master staffing plan.
a. Assures the most efficient use of FTEs based on staffing model, skill mix, experience and
licensure.
b. Accountable for appropriate staff coverage on a daily basis.
c. Works in concert with the Lead in the planning and implementation of a staffing model.
12. Exhibits accountability for operational expenses.
13. Maintains safe work environment and culture, promotes excellence in customer care. Manages
quality patient care and quality patient outcomes. Coordinate quality initiatives and process
improvement strategies that improve unit based and hospital-based score cards.
14. Maintains clinical/technical proficiency and may provide direct patient care.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Comprehensive knowledge of the healthcare industry, care coordination, familiarity with
government regulations, healthcare plans and utilization management. Skill and ability to
communicate effectively both verbally and in-writing.
Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Ability to perform EKGs / Monitors
Skill and ability in Microsoft Office applications
Knowledge of hospital audit and accreditation process by hospital accreditation organization
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy Sciences or equivalent certification program required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Combined minimum of seven (7) years case management / social work experience in an acute care
setting and respiratory care experience, to include five (5) years progressive leadership experience.

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC); has and
maintains a current licensure as a Respiratory Care Professional in the state of Georgia.
Current BLS certification required.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification in Case or Care Management preferred.
Additional certification or Masters degree in healthcare administration and / or finance preferred.
Experience using InterQual or Milliman required.
