SUMMARY

The Director is the head of the Safety department and reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer. The Director of Safety is the principal point of contact for safety matters relating to the operation. This position has the overall responsibility of managing the safety functions within Cargo Ops, Maintenance, Flt Ops, Station Operations. The Director of Safety will develop, improve, coordinate, and implement policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations at Amerijet. The Director possesses subject matter expertise in developing and implementing strategies that integrate people, processes, tools, and data to ensure safety and compliance activities are planned and implemented.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but not limited to:
Perform the duties as the CFR 119 Director of Safety and act as a liaison with the FAA and other external agencies on safety related issues.
Oversees safety related programs including, but not limited to Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAPs), Safety Management System (SMS), Internal Evaluation Program (IEP). Emergency Response Plan (ERM)
Interact frequently with other departments leadership to ensure follow-through and completion of milestones related to safety related projects.
Partner with Operational Leadership to ensure operations are conducted without unnecessary safety risk,
Be the key promoter of Top management commitment to the SMS, including making recommendations to Senior Leadership on matters pertaining to Safety.
Monitor and report to Senior Management on all air carrier activities that may have an impact on safety.
Monitor industry safety issues or concerns which may impact Amerijet operations.
Maintain and ensure compliance within the Safety Management System, which includes documentation, implementation, continuous improvement, and oversight.
Review and evaluate the adequacy of the Emergency Response Plan.
Train employees on safety-related issues, safety standards, and ERM.
Update and maintain Amerijet's Safety Manuals.
Ensure our various software platforms are properly maintained.
Provide support and consultation on safety management to all operational departments.
Evaluate proposed revisions to Amerijet's manuals for compliance and interfaces.
Conduct safety meetings to discuss safety-related issues, recommend process and policy improvements, and raise safety awareness.
Approve safety risk management documents or safety risk assessments as delegated.
Accept appropriate levels of risk.
Conduct the day-to-day activities associated with safety related issues.
Maintain close liaison with the FAA, NTSB, and industry organizations and associations.
Daily administration to ensure analysis of data for the purpose of improved operational safety.
Develop reports and briefings on safety reporting programs activity, case resolutions and trends and issues identified through the program.
Prepare airline operations trending analysis and charts utilizing the tools and data provided by Safety Programs.
Compile and present safety reporting programs data summaries for use by senior management, regulators, pilots, and other internal workgroups as appropriate.
Manage the preparation of agendas, valuable safety and risk presentations for every Safety Review Board, Safety meeting and/or Safety forum.
Monitor industry flight safety concerns which may have an impact on Amerijet operations.
Must have a thorough understanding of Amerijet's Document Management System (DMS) which satisfies the requirement of 14 CFR 121.133.
Must have a thorough understanding of 14 CFR Parts 1, 5, 119, 121.
Must have a thorough understanding of Amerijet's Operation Specifications.
Develop, track, and review corrective actions issued by Safety Committees.
Attends related industry meetings, seminars, and training as needed.
Maintain an on-call status during off-duty hours for screening of safety-related events and investigation initiation.
Lead, review and approve all investigations related to operational incidents and accidents.
Prepare safety related business cases to be presented to Senior Leadership.
Cooperate with the FAA, and other applicable external organizations regarding Amerijet's safety occurrences and other safety management issues.
Will maintain qualifications as per 119.65 (a).
Maintain understanding of Dangerous Goods and lead DG Manager employee.
Plan and lead yearly emergency response drills and training.
Other duties/projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Five or more years of experience in a supervisory position with a Part 121 certificate holder.
Bachelor's Degree in Aviation or Engineering required.
Master's degree in Aviation Safety required or at least ten years of aviation or related industry experience.
Aviation Safety Management experience required
Aviation Risk Assessment expert.
Aviation Auditor required.
Airline industry experience required.
Experience in Tracking/Trending/Collecting/Generating Data
IOSA Auditor preferred.
Previous experience with 121 Cargo air carries a plus.
Experience with matters involving the Federal Aviation Administration and other government agencies preferred.

KNOWLEDGE:
Familiarization of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Safety Management Systems, and Company Safety policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of data analysis processes and procedures.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:

Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Exert up to 30 lbs. of force occasionally for office supplies and equipment.
