Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:


The Director of Simulation Operations is responsible for the overall management and coordination of BUCIES's daily operations. This role ensures the efficient delivery of simulation services, oversees administrative and operational functions and implements policies that support the center's strategic objectives. The Director collaborates closely with the Director of Education to integrate relevant technologies into educational programs and supports the Executive Director in financial tracking, budgeting, and reporting.

Essential Functions:

Operational Management:
Oversee daily operations of the simulation center, ensuring the smooth execution of all simulation activities.
Maintain and manage simulation equipment, supplies, and facilities to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
Develop and implement operational policies and procedures aligned with accreditation standards and institutional goals.
Coordinate scheduling of simulation activities, ensuring efficient use of resources and space.
Integrate ethical standards into daily operations oversight.

Financial Management:
Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop budget forecasts and identify cost-saving strategies.
Manage operational and capital budgets for simulation operations.
Track expenses, manage inventory, and ensure proper financial reporting to the Executive Director.

Technology Integration:
Work with the Education Unit to integrate technologies into simulation-based education following best practices.
Stay current with advancements in simulation technologies and recommend upgrades or new acquisitions.
Ensure proper maintenance and operation of all simulation-related technology and equipment.

Staff Supervision and Development:
Supervise simulation operations staff, including Simulation Technologists and Operations Specialists.
Oversee operation staff training and performance evaluations.
Create and implement effective and targeted professional development plans for operations staff.
Promote professional development opportunities and foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.

Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work closely with faculty, staff, and external partners to support simulation-based learning activities.
Coordinate with the Director of Education to align simulation activities with curricular needs.
Serve as part of the director team to liaise with external vendors, accrediting bodies, and community partners.
Safety and Risk Management:
Establish protocols to ensure the safety of all participants and staff during simulation activities.
Conduct regular risk assessments and implement corrective actions as needed.

  • Certifications:
    • Required: Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS).
    • Preferred: Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist - Advanced (CHSOS-A).

    Work Experience:
    • Required: 4-6 years of experience in healthcare simulation, operations management, or a related field.
    • Preferred: 7+ years of experience, including leadership roles in simulation-based education.
      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Operational Management:
    • Expertise in managing daily operations of a simulation center.
    • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting simulation equipment and software.
    • Ability to coordinate scheduling and optimize resource utilization.

    Financial Management:
    • Experience in managing operational and capital budgets.
    • Ability to track expenses, manage inventory, and generate financial reports.

    Technology Integration:
    • Proficiency in integrating simulation technology into educational programs.
    • Familiarity with the latest advancements in healthcare simulation technology.

    Staff Supervision and Development:
    • Proven experience leading a team of simulation operations staff.
    • Ability to train and evaluate employees, fostering professional development.

    Quality Assurance and Accreditation:
    • Knowledge of accreditation standards in healthcare simulation.
    • Ability to develop and implement performance metrics and continuous improvement initiatives.

    Stakeholder Collaboration:
    • Strong ability to work with faculty, staff, vendors, and external partners.
    • Experience aligning simulation activities with curricular goals and accreditation requirements.

    Safety and Risk Management:
    • Ability to establish and enforce safety protocols for simulation activities.
    • Experience conducting risk assessments and implementing corrective actions.

    Other Preferred Competencies:
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for problem-solving in simulation operations.
    • Project and program management experience to oversee simulation-based initiatives.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills to engage with faculty, staff, and stakeholders.
    • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and simulation-related software


    Required Education
    Bachelor's degree required. Strong preference will be given to masters or doctorally prepared candidates. Preferred: Master's degree in Education, Simulation, Technology, or a related field.Preferred: Advanced certification in Healthcare Simulation Operations.

    Required Experience
    Required Experience:4-6 years of experience in healthcare simulation, simulation operations, or a related field.Experience managing the daily operations of a simulation center, including scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow optimization.Hands-on experience with simulation equipment, software, and technology, including troubleshooting and maintenance.Experience supervising simulation technologists, operations specialists, or similar staff, including training, performance evaluation, and professional development.Proven ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices for simulation operations.Experience with budgeting, financial management, and cost control in an educational or healthcare setting.Strong background in quality assurance and accreditation standards related to healthcare simulation.Preferred Experience:7+ years of experience in healthcare simulation, education technology, or operations management.Leadership experience in a simulation center or academic institution, with responsibility for strategic planning and operational oversight.Experience integrating advanced simulation technologies into education programs, including VR, AR, and AI-driven simulation.Prior involvement in accreditation processes (e.g., SSH accreditation) and quality improvement initiatives in simulation.Experience working in interprofessional education environments, collaborating with faculty and external stakeholders.Familiarity with grant writing, fundraising, or securing external funding for simulation initiatives.
