Director of Special Education

PRIMARY FUNCTION Responsible for the development and supervision of special education services for all students which includes coordination of appraisal recommendations and instruction. Responsible for working cooperatively and communicating with teachers, instructional assistants, students and administrators in order to develop and implement appropriate instructional programs for secondary students qualified to receive special education services and support. Support all aspects of the special education program with a focus on secondary to include curriculum alignment, development and implementation, and compliance. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist school districts in complying with federal and state rules/regulations pertaining to students with disabilities Conduct meetings and participates in local, state, and regional special education meetings as necessary Interprets and complete, in a timely manner, special education applications and forms for each member Assist with the hiring, training and discipline of special education staff Develops the policies, procedures and other standards within the special education department Assist school districts in complying with federal and state rules/regulations pertaining to students with disabilities Participates in ARD committee to assist with IEP placement and student placement Provide direct supervision and management of staff at service area level Conduct meetings and participates in local, state, and regional special education meetings as necessary Consults with RF teams concerning intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documentation as required Direct supervision of Licensed Specialist of School Psychology, Special Education Case Manager, and Inclusion Teachers in all special education related topics.
