Job Description
Purpose of Position:
Under the general direction of the Director of Service in a hospital center, formulates the policies and practices of and develops the services of Speech Therapy for inpatient and outpatient treatment, training, education and research in order to achieve the objectives and effectuation of policy and practice in support and delivery of efficient and effective speech care treatment and diagnosis.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
1. Plans, directs and coordinates the activities of personnel in Speech Therapy and treatment such as, but not necessarily limited to, testing and treating patients in accordance with established policy and practice.
2. Develops and formulates policies regarding implementation of practices, methods and procedures Speech Therapy program assignments and development such as, but not necessarily limited to, speech rehabilitation, diagnostic evaluation, counseling, guidance and speech reading.
3. Collaborates with administration, medical staff and heads of other professional departments in planning Speech Therapy.
Minimum Qualifications
1. A Doctorate in Audiology or Speech Therapy (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) from an accredited university and certification by the American Speech / Hearing Association; and,
2. Three years experience in Audiology or Speech Therapy, of which at least one year performed in an administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity; or,
3. A Masters Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Speech Pathology Therapy and Audiology and certification by the American Speech and Hearing Association; and,
4. Six years experience in Audiology or Speech Therapy, of which at least two years performed in an administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity; or,
5. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
