Duties Description As a member of the Executive Chamber, the Director of State Legislative Affairs reports to the Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs & Policy and serves as the key liaison for the Governor to the New York State Legislature.

Duties:

Facilitates effective communication between the Governor's Office and the members of the New York State Legislature, including managing interactions between members of the legislature and state agency departments.
Play a role in the development and implementation of goals to successfully enact the Governor's policy agenda and the promotion of Governor's Program Bills.
Conduct comprehensive research and monitoring of the progress of pending legislation.
Vigilantly track developments during the NYS Legislative Session.
Effectively assist in coordinating and managing special events and meetings as requested by the NYS Legislature.
Work closely with the Assistant Secretary and the Director of Federal Affairs to ensure alignment on policy agenda.
Undertake special assignments as directed by the Governor, the Secretary to the Governor and Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs & Policy.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible work experience in fields such as public administration, public policy, law and policy, or related areas are required. A relevant master's degree can substitute for one year of the required experience, and a Juris Doctor two years of the required experience.

Preferred Skills:

Demonstrate an understanding of the legislative process at the state level, including bill drafting, committee hearings, floor debates, and the legislative calendar.
Show a proficiency in drafting bills, amendments, and other legislative documents in accordance with state legislative procedures.
Has an ability to navigate and facilitate the legislative process from bill conception to passage.
Evaluate proposed policies, legislation, and regulatory changes critically and assess their legal and policy implications.
Exhibit strong communication skills, including the capability to prepare clear, concise reports, briefings, and correspondence.
Possess a strong analytical mindset to scrutinize legislation, policy proposals, and their potential consequences rigorously.
Offer well-founded insights and actionable recommendations based on data-driven analysis.
Demonstrate strong organizational skills to efficiently manage legislative schedules, meetings, and documentation.
Able to assist in seamless coordination of legislative activities and deadlines.
Exhibit proficiency in utilizing legislative tracking systems, office software, and databases, enhancing efficiency in managing and accessing legislative information.
