Job Title: Director of Student Success

Overview:

The Director of Student Success is an essential leadership role dedicated to fostering comprehensive student success. This role is central to promoting academic excellence, personal growth, and positive school attendance habits to ensure students' success and well-being. The Director will play a key role in cultivating a supportive and effective educational environment by providing strategic oversight and direct intervention. This multifaceted position ensures that every student has the opportunity to thrive within the district.

Responsibilities

1. Collaborate with School Counselors and Support Staff
  • Work closely with school counselors and support staff to identify students facing academic, social, or emotional challenges.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans to address these barriers and promote student success.
  • Facilitate regular meetings and communication channels to ensure continuous support and monitoring of at-risk students.


2. Monitor Student Attendance Records
  • Regularly review attendance records to identify patterns of absenteeism, tardiness, and truancy.
  • Analyze data to pinpoint trends and underlying issues affecting student attendance.
  • Use this information to inform interventions and support strategies.


3. Conduct Home Visits and Meetings
  • Organize and conduct home visits to engage with parents/guardians regarding attendance issues.
  • Hold meetings with families to discuss and develop strategies to overcome barriers to regular attendance.
  • Provide ongoing support and follow-up to ensure improvements in student attendance.


4. Develop and Implement Attendance Improvement Strategies
  • Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, and support staff to create and execute comprehensive plans aimed at improving attendance rates.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices and innovative approaches to reduce truancy.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies, making adjustments as needed.


5. Maintain Accurate Records
  • Work closely with the Coordinator of Attendance to maintain detailed and up-to-date records of all attendance-related interventions, communications, and outcomes.
  • Ensure documentation is easily accessible for reporting and analysis purposes.
  • Use data to provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.

6. Serve as a Resource for Students and Families
  • Assist with resources related to attendance policies, procedures, and available support services.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to students and families to help them navigate attendance-related issues.
  • Offer information and referrals to additional resources as needed.


7. Implement Truancy Prevention Programs
  • Design and deliver truancy prevention programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives.
  • Educate students and families on the importance of regular school attendance and its impact on academic success.
  • Promote awareness of the resources and support available to help maintain consistent attendance.


8. Support Attendance and Behavior Recognition Programs
  • Assist school administrators in developing and implementing programs that recognize and reward good attendance and positive behavior.
  • Coordinate events and initiatives that celebrate student achievements and foster a positive school culture.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of these programs on student engagement and attendance.


9. Coordinate with Local Agencies and Organizations
  • Partner with local agencies, law enforcement, and community organizations to address factors contributing to truancy.
  • Provide referrals and connect students and families with appropriate support services.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships to ensure a holistic approach to student success.


10. Prepare and Present Workshops
  • Develop and deliver workshops on various topics related to student success, such as study skills, time management, and stress reduction.
  • Tailor content to meet the needs of different audiences, including students, parents, and staff.
  • Gather feedback and continuously improve workshop content and delivery.
  • Provide learning supports to alleviate barriers such as: classroom-based enrichment, student and family interventions, transitions, crisis prevention, community collaboration, and family engagement.


11. Support the Executive Leadership Team
  • Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team to provide support to principals and teachers.
  • Share insights and recommendations based on attendance and student success data.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of district-wide initiatives aimed at enhancing student outcomes.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field (Master's degree preferred).

2. Experience working in K-12 education settings, preferably in roles involving student support, community engagement, or service learning.

3. Strong understanding of educational principles, curriculum development, and academic standards.

4. Experience in addressing truancy issues and implementing attendance improvement initiatives.

5. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

6. Ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including students, educators, parents, and community members.

7. Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs and initiatives.

8. Commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and social justice in education.

9. Proficiency in data analysis and technology skills relevant to program evaluation and reporting.

10. Flexibility, creativity, and a passion for empowering students to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

11. Proficient in Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Workspace and other common office applications.
