Job Overview:
The Director of System Clinical Quality Performance supports operational excellence in clinical quality, patient safety and patient experience performance. The successful candidate will establish strategic initiatives, develop quality priorities, align quality analytics, and facilitate collaboration across our network of 14 hospitals, service lines and ambulatory health care settings. A key responsibility of this role is to evaluate, design, lead, and implement a coordinated approach to clinical quality performance and processes and share learning across the RWJBH system. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who can effectively influence, foster change and collaboration, and ensure clinical excellence of quality outcomes. The role will be responsible to recruit two regional senior clinical performance improvement specialists. Role will support development of the vision for an RWJBH Quality Center for Innovation and Excellence to serve as engine for RWJBH's academic health system performance improvement skills/competency development, shared learning to support local operational leaders' performance needs in quality, safety and patient experience. This role will provide primary operational support to our hospitals, matrixing with embedded local quality resources team members as a subject matter expert for quality related performance improvement projects and prioritized system focus areas. The System Director PI will also matrix with the (a) RWJBH System Performance Improvement operational arm to align on methods, tools and support system-wide competency development in improvement and sustainability methods and with the (b) System Advanced Data Analytics team supporting quality improvement.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Master's degree in a relevant field
- A minimum of 7 years of progressive healthcare experience, specifically within acute care settings
- A minimum of 5 years of engagement in healthcare quality and process improvement with a foundational knowledge of key metrics impacting reputation, quality, and financial performance.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with a proven track record of building effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, including clinical staff, management, executive leaders, and external partners.
- Proven skills in leadership, strategic planning, and quality improvement initiatives, with the ability to drive organizational change and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Project management skills with the ability to facilitate cross-functional collaboration to drive system and local quality performance.
- Experience working with and interpreting clinical and operational data.
Preferred:
- Lean Six Sigma Certification, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), or similar credentials in healthcare quality is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with at least 3-5 years' experience utilizing Vizient data (or similar comparative quality analytics platform) preferred
- Vizient Clinical Database proficiency preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across various business units, including Hospital Presidents, Senior Leadership Team members, local Quality Directors, Value-Based Care Leadership, Care Coordination/DC management, and Revenue Cycle/Coding/Clinical Documentation Integrity Managers. Engage Physician and Advanced Practice Provider (APP) members to drive quality outcomes for RWJBH.
- Oversee and analyze internal and external performance benchmarks to identify areas of improvement. Identifies opportunities for strategic system integration to increase efficiencies in capturing actionable insights.
- Understand clinical documentation through the lens of local and national quality and ranking methodologies, including U.S. News & World Report, Vizient, Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades and CMS Star Ratings.
- Advance the standard of quality improvement methods across RWJBH through innovation, learning, and shared deployment of best practices.
- Design, lead, and implement monitoring and surveillance of process and outcome metrics and develop, support, and maintain a monthly reporting and communication process with key stakeholders.
- Lead and manage a high-performing regional team of performance improvement specialists responsible for supporting targeted initiatives aimed at enhancing quality performance metrics.
- Monitor trends and influence strategy: awareness of system performance trends, as well as national healthcare landscape and adjust strategy, analytics and data visualizations and targets to realign system approach to safeguard quality performance
- Assess and inform RWJBH strategy and implementation of initiatives to drive clinical quality, patient safety and patient experience performance defined by destination goals approved by the System Board of Directors.
