The Position:
Responsible for the overall technology across all school buildings and departments within the district. Responsibilities include short and long-term planning, coordination, integration, evaluation and implementation of day-to-day technology decisions. Provide district leadership in the use of technology and provide educational leadership and assistance to district administrators as directed by the Assistant Superintendent.

Primary Duties and Responsiblities:
Planning:
  • Provides leadership for short and long-range planning for all technology initiatives including the development and implementation of departmental vision, goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Evaluate current usage of technology and recommend methods of improvement.
  • Develop and execute technology project plans for all scopes and timelines.
  • Provide technology expertise related to networking and infrastructure decisions and implementation throughout the district.
  • Develop consistent standards for software and hardware to ensure compatibility.
  • Select appropriate hardware and software solutions for operational and educational tasks.
  • Plan for and implement a district wide security system for valuable equipment.
  • Develop and coordinate comprehensive data integrity, disaster recovery and backup plan.
  • Develop and coordinate implementation planned obsolescence strategy, including relocation or removal of outdated equipment.
  • Assist in development and enforcement of a policy on pirated and unauthorized software. Coordinate legal acquisition of software; ensure maintenance of sufficient software licensing and records. Coordinate maintenance of inventory of existing technology assets.
  • Ensure provision of sufficient operational documentation and resource materials.
  • Develop an annual Technology budget and categorize/track expenditures from the budget throughout the year.
  • Serve as the chair of the Educational Technology Advisory Committee.
  • Serve as a contributing member on the Superintendent's Cabinet.
  • Investigate all regulations as they pertain to technology and infrastructure and establish practices to ensure compliance. Example includes, but is not limited to, COPPA.
Operational:
  • Responsible for maintaining technology operations to include systems administration, network management, telecommunications management, system and data security, system and data backup and emergency recovery plan. Maintain and support additional databases used by the district to track and report student and employee data.
  • Maintain and support the district's Learning Management System.
  • Query databases to provide lists or spreadsheets that district staff needs to support a variety of local projects.
  • Oversee, maintain, and support the district's student and employee information systems.
  • Evaluate, select, and supervise the acquisition of technology or technology services from external vendors and consultants as needed.
  • Coordinate the troubleshooting, reconfiguration and/or repair of computer hardware/software, networking, and the district telephone system, by in-house technical staff or external repair technicians.
  • Coordinate and supervise installation of new hardware and software.
  • Coordinate administration of Wide Area Network throughout the district.
Supervisory:
  • Supervise and evaluate members of the technology department.
  • Coordinate and supervise effective technical training of district personnel to maximize the utilization of equipment and software.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of a Responsible Use Policy and other rules and regulations regarding the use of technology by teachers, administrators and students.
  • Keep abreast of new technology and trends in the industry on an ongoing basis through trade journals, seminars, demonstrations and peer networking.
  • Attend all Board of School Directors Work Sessions and Board Meetings. In conjunction with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, serve as the administrative liaison for the Board Curriculum and Technology Committee Meeting.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent or designee.


Type of Position: Administrative
Work Year: Full-time position, 12 months/260-262 days

QUALIFICATIONS: Three (3) years of experience in the local area network, wide area network and computer end-user environment. Experience in school district administration or school district experience with educational technology preferred. Master's degree in computer science or equivalent preferred. Extensive knowledge of the computer industry with decision making ability for LAN, WAN and computer connectivity. Extensive experience with Microsoft computer and server operating systems and with Microsoft end-user products. Extensive experience with Google Suite. Experience with Canvas Learning Management System preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are necessary. Excellent ability to plan short-term and long-term projects. Experience with formal project planning strategies preferred. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate with other departments are required. Ability to directly supervise all technology personnel. Ability to work both independently and as part of the district team.

Position requires sitting, standing, walking or moving throughout the district, often for extended periods of the workday. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Must be able to hear (40 decibel loss maximum), verbally communicate and see with near acuity of 20 inches or less and far acuity of 20 feet or more with depth perception, accommodation and field of vision. Performs a variety of duties, able to make judgements and work under high level of stress. Subject to inside environmental conditions.

Compensation:
Salary: $148,500-$160,000 commensurate with experience.
