Job Description Overview

The Director of Technology's primary responsibility is to ensure all technology across the school district functions seamlessly as an extension of the learning environment in the effort to support student achievement. It is essential the Director of Technology maintains a shared vision and works closely with the Superintendent, Director of Teaching & Learning, and all other administrators to make data-driven decisions for the advancement of technology in District 126.

Qualifications
  • Illinois Professional Educator License
  • Administrative Endorsement and Master's Degree or equivalent professional managerial experience in the area of information technology
  • Minimum of five years of managerial experience in information technology
  • School and/or district level administration experience preferred

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership for planning, supervising, and directing IT functions for the District
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Technology Department staff, including but not limited to the Database Administrator, all Technology Aides, Network Technician, and the Schooldude Helpdesk Ticketing System
  • Develop and implement Technology Strategic Plan, which shall include IT goals, technology priorities, technology lifecycle management, IT infrastructure maintenance, technology investments, identifying current technological assets
  • Manage and monitor service for students and staff
  • Monitor operations of the network infrastructure, including but not limited to wi-fi, school networks, districtwide networks, switches/router/access points
  • Monitor operations of critical data systems, including but not limited to Skyward, Frontline Central, Google Workspace, Apple School Manager, JAMF, network printers, servers, file sharing, Cisco VOIP phone systems, all hosted virtual machines, etc.
  • Monitor operations of security systems, including but not limited to Cisco ASA Firewalls, Barracuda Web Filter, Sentinel One Agent, Endpoint Protection, Cisco XDR, Avigilon Door Access, and Avigilon Security Camera System
  • Oversee the daily management and security of all student and staff devices
  • Direct the scheduled refresh of all devices including Apple 1:1 devices and chromebook devices
  • Recommend appropriate system upgrades when necessary
  • Manage the annual E-rate application process by determining current and future infrastructure needs and working with the district's current E-rate consultant to submit all required application documentation to Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) and conduct a fair bidding process.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all devices, software, credentials, IP addresses, etc.
  • Extract and manipulate data from various district systems as needed
  • Be available to manage and address IT priorities outside school day hours
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent

Physical Requirements
  • The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity
  • Must have the ability to work off hours as planned in advance, or to resolve situations which are critical as they occur
  • Must have the ability and means to travel between our schools and to vendor locations as needed
  • The employee should have the physical capabilities to perform the job functions
